The Hurt Locker

academy awards just like every other awards show is all the same type of crap, its all the newly/newer released things that get any credit and stuff actually from the beginning of the year regardless of how good it was is always left in the wind

The Hurt Locker was initially released in June and had a wide release in July. Technically it's a summer action movie.

Too many war movies , so when i heard its unique and original , it make me laugh...

And Avatar was?? Pretty sure that story has been told a dozen times before.... Not to mention War Movies are a genre like Sci Fi films.... There is no original genres anymore...

So glad Avatar lost. Sure it was technologically advanced and revolutionary but aside from the great graphics nothing beats live acting emotions rather than ones generated by a computer. Not to mention there was no story line in Avatar other than a tweaked combination of Fern Gully and Dances with Wolves. Id much rather see a original story line rather than one thats been used before with a polished image and a change of scenery.

I dont see whats the big deal over the Hurt Locker, why do people like it so much when obviously the other films were slightly better?

I personally liked Hurt Locker because it was a different perspective on the military. Never really knew that's what they'd do in that perspective. It was informative and well produced. Glad it was nominated and or won. Something different then LOADS OF BLOOD.. loads of GUSHY MUSHY love stories.

Thats a matter of opinion. What isn't a matter of opinion is the fact that the movie was brilliantly shot, it had a great script and it told an amazing story.

Oscars:

Shakespeare In Love beat Saving Private Ryan.

(never watched'em since)

Its one of Joseph Fiennes better performances for sure.

Interesting thing about the Fiennes brothers. They never seem to win an Oscar, but the Actresses around them will.

I called Rachel Weisz winning for the Constant Gardener because of this.

Honestly, the oscars are all politics, last year Milk wins it because of the gay rights movement, now this.
The oscars are trying to justify the American occupation of Iraq.
I liked the movie, my dad didn't.
It was good, def not oscar worthy thou.

Also, how could Thompson die that far off from the blast at the beginning with that huge suit on?
That didn't make any sense!

Well first: While I do not feel that The Hurt Locker deserved best picture...I really doubt it had anything to do with a justification of anything. Unfortunately the Oscars were driven to a choice between Avatar and The Hurt Locker...and Avatar simply did not deserved best picture.

Second. The suit only protects the person from shrapnel. The pressure released from the bomb was enough to destroy his internal organs. The Suit doesn't protect someone from that.

Agreed, while Avatar was an amazing achievement in technology the plot lacked substance and the script left more to be desired.

Sexy Beast is completely right on that second point. The concussion from that size of a device would have killed anyone in Thompson's position.

I enjoyed the movie and don't get me wrong, for Hollywood is was good, but it was by far NOT the end all be all film. I have some issues with it like half the other Vets out there. We enjoyed it for what it was and know that's not a documentary so only the parts that make sense are used while some logic and a lot of actual procedures thrown out the window.

I'm still not sure why it was awarded Best flick... But grats to the crew.

Hurt locker was a good movie, avatar was a modern day pocahontas
