It was a better time...

This is funny when you read it as sarcasm.

It's like saying Quake Three Arena is dead. To this day and age, I can pull up over a thousand servers hosting a game right now. Mods too, like Freezetag, Overkill, etc.

TF2 can't die, it has no soul. As long as a small following still maintain servers, TF2's future is secure. Valve might take down the item servers in a good number of years, but the game isn't hosted itself on Valve's corporate network.

Very true, I still see live servers out there running Team Fortress Classic. Some of us old farts yearn for the old days of online gaming ocassionally.

Yes, the preceding post was written with tongue firmly in cheek. If you follow the link at the bottom you'll see I just took the old BSD meme and inserted TF2-esque references.
Saying "X is dying/dead" is a classic troll to incite nerd rage.

As long as I have one other person to play with it doesn't really matter if everyone else leaves. I have no financial stake in TF2... I'll let Valve worry about that stuff while I have fun.

I dont exactly want to go to vanilla tf2 but I want to go to tf2 where valve created achievements and you got weapons out of them!

Meh, just adapt to the change or stop playing all together. Either way, the fragging will continue :P , there is no need to make a thread about how things were good once imo its still good.

I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I agree with Darth.

Someone please slap me.

Might I point out again that because TF2 provides a game (TF2) and not a service (Eve or WoW) that you can install Sourcemod plugins to turn off unlocks?

Like... this one? http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=838018

And then you can play the game on your own server "the right way" as personally defined by you, with other people who subscribe to the same definition?

I mean, I'm just sayin'.

-----

And speaking of "just sayin' I get a bit annoyed with people telling me they've had to "learn the game all over again." While the new items have always changed the game dynamics I've never once seen an item that's changed the way the game works. Let's take my favorite hate object, the Eternal Reward.

OH MY GOD YOU STAB SOMEBODY AND INSTANTLY DISGUISE AS THEM BUT YOU LOSE YOUR DISGUISE KIT

Now, this changes how you play spy as you lose your disguise kit... but nobody forces you to use the weapon. If you want to play "the right way" then you use the regular knife and cloak watch. So when somebody says they have to "relearn the entire game" they're not talking about this.

However... for the paranoid engineer (myself)... what has changed? Absolutely nothing. I don't play Engineer any different now that spies can backstab me and get my costume. Everyone who walks near me gets a clip of bullets by default. Anyone acting strange gets a second clip. Anyone near my sentry gets a wrench to the head. Nothing has changed, for me, with this update to new weapons.

Speaking of cloaks, here's another big gamechanger: you can choose between instant death-to-cloak or cloak-forever-if-you-dont-move. Gamechanger? Not in the least. If I shoot you, you run off and costume up because you had the dead ringer and come back... guess what? You're going to get a clip of bullets. Maybe two if you look suspicious. A wrench to the head when you go near my sentry. Your new weapon hasn't changed my game at all.

Sometimes the weapons seem a little more cheap. Sometimes they change YOUR style of play quite a bit (the Frontier Justice has made me much more vengeful upon the loss of Cindy the Sentry Gun). However, you can CHOOSE to use the new stuff or not. But by and large, other people having other weapons do not change the way you play as much as everyone says. You don't have to "relearn the whole game." You can elect to pick up a few more tactics if you wish (for example, if a single pistol shot kills you, I'm going to be looking for you Mr. Spy), but at the end of the day, a paranoid Engineer is still a paranoid Engineer.

At least, that's what I see. Much todo about nothing. Didja hear? They're working on new weapons! And they're going to completely break the game too!

...but it has lost a significant amount of its following...

For the life of me, I'm still trying to figure out where THIS meme comes from.

Because when I look at DATA instead of CRYING BABIES I see the game either holding steady or gaining players online: http://tf2stats.net/server/ (Daily Players)

In fact, the only evidence I've seen about TF2 losing a "significant amount of it's following" is the fact that lots of people seem to be repeating it... but that doesn't make it true.

Maybe I just remember playing this game back in 2008 where everything was simple and the backburner was the only annoying weapon you had to deal with what with the +50 health buff. Or maybe in my old ripened age of 18, change scares me and I don't want to deal with it.

I just feel like there's too much changed from what I was used to. And being unable to headshot other snipers? That is just complete bull-hockey. I don't care if they technically can't head shot you, that still is the crappiest set bonus to ever become reality.

A bullet through your head, is a bullet through your head. I'm sure the crocodiles feel the same way seeing as we're all running around with their heads on (Metal Gear Solid 3 anyone?).

Meh, the engineer update didn't make me too happy either. The fact that sniping on 2fort is near impossible now with engineers spamming rockets and bullets at all openings and makes going outside twice as dangerous as it ever was.

1st point: Although people never saw me on anything but CS:S and RS, I got TF2 as my first steam game in 2008. I watched every update come out, and each one was like a tidal wave at the beach that is TF2. However, it dies down, the game gets better again, the obsessions stop, and valve balances it out.

2nd point: Meet me in a Rated R room of vent and I'll tell you what I thing of the no headshot bonus. :cursing:

3rd point: Lolololol

4th point: It gives no disadvantages, the mini sentries were a good idea, same with the revenge crits, but controlling your own sentry that autotargets and can shoot farther?

Overall, TF2 loses some of its touch, but it will come back. Valve will get overrun with complaints to nerf the shortstop, black box, and sniper set.

Worse? Worse?

I'll have what you're having, because I actually think TF2 is still better than most FPS's out today.
