As some may have noticed jail isn't getting as full as it used to be, and sometimes has trouble getting full on "peak" hours.

If you have any ideas on how to increase the popularity of jail post them here for leadership to see.

Some of my ideas are, bringing back trivia, allowing more games that are not allowed right now, unmuting the t's, bringing back older maps, introducing some maps that are not made by members of Edgegamers, and a bit of rule changing.

Please stay on topic, and to the point with your posts. Do not shoot down other's ideas, thanks.

What games aren't currently allowed? To my knowledge, any game that requires participation is allowed, as long as its fair and can be applied to Guards in the case of LRs.

So what games were you thinking that are banned?

Trivia is boring. I find it hard enough to play Jail as it is. I don't want to sit in front of my cell for 2 minutes while 80% of my team dies because they can't Google fast enough. There's no active participation like there is in jump rope, dodge ball, couch game, etc.

It's really up to the warden to be creative. If it's subjective, we'll know.

Unmuting the Prisoners, I would never, ever play Jail again. I'm sorry, but with our current members and always evolving environment, we mute the Prisoners for several reasons.

1) They may and almost always do on every Jail server I've played on, impede the rounds.

2) They may make it unfair for Warden to give orders. Resulting in many Prisoners death for no reason. Prisoners don't wanna wait all of 8 minutes just for 1 simple mistake.

3) When one talks, they all talk. This may lead to a hostile environment we want to be far away from.

To save us time, headache, and time, and headaches, and more time, I think it's fair the Prisoners are muted, excluding last CT and LR.

EdgeGamers maps must be approved by Leadership. Therefor, it must meet certain criteria. Public maps may not have the criteria needed and if a map maker is really interested, they can redesign it themselves. Christy has done this before, I think with black_ops?

There's more to this, and please, don't feel like I'm shooting you down. I just want to explain to you why boundaries exist. These are all my personal opinions and none of it is certified material.

But, all in all, this is a great thread and I hope I can come up with a few ideas over the next week. I'll definitely post them in here when I have some.

Thanks for your thread. :)

Honestly for me its lost its touch because people don't seem to want to make it fun at times.

I'm not saying that it isn't, but I feel that its lost its touch in enthusiastic players. I know when the right players are on (usually the people that either know how to warden or rebel) I can sit in the Jail server for almost 3-4 map changes. However, I find myself leaving (not because of warden commands and games or rebelling), but because a lot of people don't enjoy their time in the server.

Call me crazy and tell me that EVERYONE in the server is enjoying themselves, but I can tell (especially in vent). When the the people in the server are enjoying themselves the vent channel rarely stays quiet.

That's my personal opinion. You can hate on it and tell me I am wrong, but that's truth for me.

I understand your post, I'm just trying to say I think that the boundaries should be changed up a bit and the rules need to be set in "stone" so that people can stop saying that "oh this rule was changed" etc then it's more of a he said, she said type of thing.

As for the maps, I think we need some more variety and that it would be a tad bit easier for some of the mappers that we have right now to modify some of the pre existing maps that are already out there, seeing as how making a map is quite hard and very time consuming, a lot of the maps that are amazing become over played.

As for the warden being creative, it's just not really plausible half of the time with the current player base of CT's and wardens that we have. It seems hard to get a good round out of jail anymore unless you have Ct's on like Yeti, Stormy, Penguin, or yourself.

As for the t's all talking at once, the warden could tell them to calm down on voice, and if they don't a warden could do a temp mute for a few seconds and then unmute them.

And yes, trivia is boring most of the time, but then again it's better than having the same routines that we seem to have fallen into for most of the maps. For instance on Prison Break, days usually go something like this: Cells open, kills a few T's for doing nothing wrong. Then they will go to the no smoking room and play a game there, then they will go outside and do something on the play ground. This creates a very stale environment for the players that play jail, and it reflects why the numbers may be slipping up a bit.

And I hope you do come up with some good ideas when you have the time. :D

Also by trivia I meant like opinionated joke days.

I'd have to agree with you 100% on that.

1. Bring back classic maps on rotation (cryptic fortress, failjail, spyder, moly v1, grand marble v2)
2. Let CT's plant T's side arms only, it will end a boring round quick.
3. I like the idea of bringing maps that not just eGO made in.

those are my 2cents. -_-

Jail will not change unless its players change.

This has been my way of thinking for a while. Whether or not jail is fun is mostly due to who is playing as CT. When even 1 person feels the need to kill half the T team straight out of cells, the game becomes increasingly frustrating for a lot of people, and not just the ones killed. I simply just can't fathom why people go out of their way to make jail less fun in ways such as this. This is why I adapted my rules of engagement and created a guide in an attempt to get others to do the same. Unfortunately, the ones I think would benefit from reading it, don't read it.

You can have whatever maps, games, ideas, whatever, but if the CTs fail to utilize them, they may as well not exist.

This.

The majority of CTs fall into two categories (notice I said majority, there are ones that don't and those are the better ones). They are: 1)Oh, you twitched, you're dead. Oh you are a centimeter farther than you're suppose to be, you're dead. 2)I don't care if you run away. I don't care if you're cheating and halfway to the finish of race when I type go.

Both those categories make jail not fun. You can't be super strict "omgz you just flinched you must be a rabbler" but you also can't just be like "ok when cells open run to disco on the other side of map past armory and vents!" <- That second one reeeeeeeeeallllly frustrates me as I've seen people who should know better than that give those open ended orders at the starts of rounds, and it basically makes the round pretty much turn into a freeday.

I don't think any rule changes will fix it. I would like to see trivia brought back if it was true trivia, a.k.a. not math. Make it use once a round and at least we'd have another game to play other than Simon Says and FR/LR.

Ban FR/LR and Simon Says. (Or ban FR/LR and keep Simon) Those are the two most boring games ever. If a warden wants to get rid of some Ts, just play the couch game instead.

Also, while I understand this would increase load times for new players, custom skins for the CTs and Ts, along with a Last Request plugin would be pretty cool. I think having an Last Request plugin would make getting LR more enticing.

Simple things that can be fun should be integrated too.

Two days ago I was drunk and play Jail(Who would've guessed?), I tried getting the Prisoners to do the macarana.

It was entertaining and funny. They would run left to right, forward and back, and crouch like they couldn't control themselves.

No one really died and it was more to pass the time with a fun event before eliminating them. This way, everyone got to have fun, even if they died within the next 2 minutes.

Remember, your ideas do not necessarily have to kill them, just to have fun.

I think having eGO members get more involved with the pubs would help. What I mean is, introduce yourself to the people that you know are new to jail/our server. Maybe add them on Steam and possibly recruit them into the clan. I think just being friendly to them would make them remember our server in a positive way. I don't really play jail because, to me, it seems so cliquey and it is also not my gaming preference.

I was recruited into this clan because of how friendly everyone was in the office server. There were a few that would always say "Hi" , "ns","nt" or something along those lines. I always try to do the same when I'm in game.

I think T's need things to do when they're dead. Sitting in spec is not fun, at least not for me, and jail rounds can take FOREVER.

I vote all new maps should have a maze/climb area set aside and a plugin to respawn T's to that area once they die. Atleast they'll have something to do when they die instead of watching the screen.

What I like to do is in spec, fly around when you're dead. That's how I learned all the older maps. Flew around, learning where Vents where, where they led, what traps their are, etc.

I flew around and learned everything, and now I just alt tab and play something else until I hear the DING of a new warden o_O
but that is a great idea for anyone who is like balhrghrhg this maps bad and confusing, I don't know where anything is blahrglahgrlhg.

I believe we need to allow an optional opinionated days. These days are almost always fun for the t's and if they don't want to play they can sit out. Before I played eGO The jail server I played had this and was the most entertaining for the t's. It brought out the creative sides of the t's for questions like what's for breakfast.
Another thing is that we need to allow trivia. I know some trivia is boring but if we allowed like Movie trivia then its fun for the t's and helps eliminate a few of them.
Both of these ideas will help speed up the round while entertaining the t's and making the spectators/dead t's happy because they don't have to wait as long as they used to.

Another thing is that we need a lot of those old maps back on the rotation. We keep playing the same jail maps over and over again and that's another thing that is making jail less fun. If we could just start adding more jail maps and also increase the time before we can nominate a map recently played we can get more maps played and more entertainment for the players.

Thats just my 2 cents

I guess it would be more fun without the T's being muted all the time. BUT with this idea comes more admining..
Also, I think we need more maps. We can also play on a map not from eGO or bring back the old maps that are not in the eGO rotation. To add to, lets have a rule to not kill AFK's?

Ts cannot even control themselves for the brief duration they are unmuted for last CT. There is no way they would do anything but interrupt orders nonstop if they were unmuted permanently.

Also, I think we need more maps.

Start mappin then :P

Jail will not change unless its players change.

This is what controls Jail the most. There are things people don't do and yet have the option. I see many good CTs/Wardens creating new and intriguing games and the there's the wardens that do the same thing every time they're warden.

BUT, its also up to the Ts to do stuff like rebel instead of following the CTs orders all the time. Many wardens also move Ts around allowing them the option but at most its one or two that try to escape and rebel then die because you HAVE to work as a team.

Both sides need to use TEAMWORK more and it would be a lot more interesting than just either a) the CTs getting wiped off the floor or B) the Ts failing to win a round because they don't try to communicate and work together.

To add to, lets have a rule to not kill AFK's?

What if at the start of every round I say "AFK" and then all of a sudden when I'm one of 2 people alive I come back and am allowed to compete for LR? I think you would just see everyone screaming "FREEKILL I WAS AFK" when they get killed for hiding in the cells as well.

It is really unfair when people who are AFK are allowed to come out and compete for LR when they didn't participate in anything.
