I know you guys do it a little different in the DoD division but in the TF2 division, swearing on the servers is an automatic kicking and probable banning for (e)s. (e)s should know better and deserve no warning.

I guess is the justification behind this action.

I know what you're talking about. In fact, I ran into an =(e)= today on one of our servers who used the f-word in team text chat. I immediately kicked him...without warning.

We should have zero tolerance for our own clan members breaking the rules...they should know them! I could have banned him for a few hours, or a day, but since I hadn't seen any prior problems with him

Hardly the way to go then just smacking them with a ban hammer...
Use your head
Some people will listen if you tell them
It's hardly rocket science... they do have eyes and can read the rules, yes
But they also have ears to listen to you instead of immediate kicking...
It's quite sad that you kick without warnin it's not like he was being racist or something.
I guess that is your stance on "swearing" the fact most countries have incorporated it in their everyday language is irrelevant...
It's like calling your mate gay, you do it for lols not to insult
Unless he was directing at anyone should you really care about it...
But hey what do I know, the guy could of been a jerk

No, (e)s deserve no warning. Some might understand, but they'll listen and hold the non swearing quota if you kick them opposed to tell them to stop. If you read my original message, it was about WARNING the (e)s not tellingvthem to stop and they might stop.

People have different ideas about what constitutes swearing. I once warned a player for saying "Jesus" because it sounded more like a curse than a prayer. It's a judgement call.

If you feel the offense is not open to question then kick using the console and
sm_kick <#userid|name> "Foul Language" and do a condump.

If it is questionable language but you were offended it is worth a warning to let them know. If you must kick them later there will be no question why. If they give you lip, kick them using the console and
sm_kick <#userid|name> "arguing with an Admin" and do a condump.

It is important that you state the reason. If you just kick them they will come back full of righteous (or unrighteous wrath) and dig themselves into a deeper hole. Disrupting the server in the process.

If they come back again and show no remorse get an eGO to give them a one day ban to give them time to cool off and to free the server from disruption.

sm_ban <#userid|name> 1440 "Language / Disrespect"

Remember the goal. Keep the servers friendly and a pleasant place to play.

Is there any type of suspension program? Like a couple hour ban? or like a few days suspension from the servers?

The banning admin can enter whatever time he/she feels is appropriate.

0 minutes is a permanent ban.
1 Hour 60
12 Hours 720
1 Day 1440
1 Week 10080
2 Weeks 20160
1 Month 43200

sm_ban <#userid|name> minutes "reason"

The purpose of a timed ban is to get their attention and give them time to think about why they got banned. The time should reflect the severity of the offense. Racism and hard core pornographic sprays rate permanent bans. Wearing the tags of griefing clans is also a permaban.

Admins who ban people should visit the contest ban forum regularly for the duration of the ban to see if they need to address a contested ban. Obviously if you ban someone for a day or less this is not as important.

Yeah. e's swearing in chat is ridiculous. It warrants an instant kick. There is a difference between taking the time to type out a swear word and letting it slip out over the mic. If a person apologizes for a slip of a word over the mic before you get the montage of "Please Watch the language and attitude in the servers" I normally don't count it towards the W/K/B method if they are truely remorseful. Yet, if they do it again the first was less likely to be a slip.. anyway it's a judgement call by the admins, and i trust that all my fellow admins will make the right one :)

wow, there are quite a bit of mixed feelings amongst the eg and egos on this issue... One time, i witnessed an EGO kick one of the pubs who was "having an attitude." The pub was being a tool or whatever but he wasn't swearing. Another pub (whom i presume was his friend) asked "what did <insert name> do wrong?" The EGO then answered (with an attitude) "don't worry about it." I then spoke out in chat and said "what's with the attitude? he only wanted to know why his friend did wrong...

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the EGO who said "don't worry about it" had quite a distasteful attitude. Anyways, i'm just sharing this story to show that it's not just the E's who are misrepresenting this community. EG and EGO's who have been a part the community much longer than anyone else should lead by example. Anyways, i don't let things like this stop me from enjoying myself and doing what i have to do to represent the community. Game on
