Stop Complaining- Start Playing

The game is all about losing! Losing is rewarding cause then you can show off how artful of a dodger you are to those pesky crit winners.

My two cents, I've seen people win with very little offense, average defense, and superior amount of support, MY gripe is communication and coordination. Four spies can be absolutely devastating if they know what they are doing together, same goes for any other overcrowded class.

I do agree that it's very unsportsmanlike to yell or get angry at those who do overcrowd those classes. Ask if some would switch, if not, drop the subject and move on.

"Why do we have 4 snipers?"
"We don't need 3 spies."

Anytime your team loses, blame the snipers and spies, because obviously they were the reason your team lost.

Except if you have 4 snipers or spies, that pretty much is the reason you lost, assuming A/D maps. The same is true to a lesser extent on CTF. So...

Again, this attitude is exactly what I am referring to. It's never the sniper or spies that helped your team win, it's always we lost because of them. (Again, heaven forbid it could be anything but the snipers or spies - it could never be communication, ability, or poor tactics, let's just blame the snipers and spies like everyone else does)

Scapegoats. The TF2 community as a whole for the most part turns these classes into scapegoats and the reason for your team losing. It's a bad approach to have. I've been on plenty of teams that won having 4 snipers. It occurs quite often actually.

If the whole team is snipers and spies, you have insane Ambush bonus!

The key is adapting to the other team, sometimes having 4 snipers and 4 spies can work. By all means if the other team is all heavies go sniper and spy. Obviously if that's winning games then it's a good thing. But if your team is losing over and over again, they're doing something wrong and usually it's too many snipers/spies and not enough medics/engies, or too few offensive classes.

Stop compaining- start playing. Trust me, you'll have more fun.

Regarding the first phrase in the quotation above I will have you know that I have it from a highly impeachable authority that anytime a team loses it is because the medic did not do his job.

As far as the second phrase goes. Well said. Pip! Pip! Cheerio! eh what?

You're right. I forgot all about that. :chair:

You have no idea how much that made me chuckle Quaffer ;)

I think people should just pick a class, play it, and hope for the best. Hopefully win with their team. Deal with people's choices. Winning is always fun. So is losing. Lol.

I do this at times, truth is we dont need 6 spies or snipers at the bottom of the board or just camping with the C&D getting 2 kills the whole round. When I see 6 spies or snipers, i change class and hope someone else does the same and at times it helps to suggest that we dont need that many classes and you know what 8 out of 10 times that people do take that suggestion it actually benefits the team and we pull a win.

As much as I dislike snipers in this game, blaming the snipers for losing the game to me is the cheap way out. It takes a team effort to lose, not just one class. As you guys may know, I play heavily on the 2Fort IR server, which is basically sniper haven. I do admit it does annoy me sometimes when I join a team and there's 5-6 snipers, however, if they are 5-6 good snipers (which a good majority of the ones I've seen on the IR server are and there are a lot of regular players) that is a tactical advantage for that map. No way in hell anyone is going to make it out the front door alive. Which means the only place to cover is the sewers. Even one good sniper in the sewers can be a pain to get around with. A lot of times where there is an overabundance of -any- class, I've always just threw it out that we may need something else, and most of the time, if you ask or suggest in a nice, professional way, there's always someone willing to switch.

In all, if you are complaining that there are too many snipers or spies and not enough medics, chances are you're a sniper or spy as well, and maybe you should change class if it means benefiting the team, no?

If you play 2fort IR or blackmesa you have no business in a thread about winning/losing/teamwork.

In some of the threads of late I have noticed a tendency to attack the credentials of the people making posts rather than addressing the aspects of the thread which expresses an opinion that differs from yours. Such posts are usually met by emotional counterposts of posters coming to the defense of themselves or others. In extreme cases the entire point of the thread becomes lost and a few people post back and forth riling each other up.

It's ugly, unprofessional and leads to ill mannered behavior and worse.

There is a better way to handle it.

When trying to resolve an issue determine what not who is wrong.
Before you post ask yourself. Have I made my point or am I just upsetting someone. Calling someone (fill in you own depreciating phrase) isn't nearly as rewarding as demonstrating that they are incorrect in a way that will have your reader nodding and saying "Wish I had said that". The whole name calling thing is best left on the playground. Dare I say...it is not mature.

(If you want to attack someone we have games where mayhem is encouraged. Feel free to use the servers.)

Saturday Night Live used to feature a point and counterpoint session with Dan Akroyd and Jane Curtin. Dan would always start off with "Jane you ignorant ..." It was funny because it was a stupid way to start a discussion. In logical rhetoric the technique is called poisoning the well. Let's leave the poison to the exterminators.

We keep the servers punk free. We can do the same with the forums.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Gee. Look what I found.

I'm no General, but it seems to me that 2fort would usually be easier with even MORE snipers, provided that they'd actually support others instead of having 6 snipers shooting 6 other snipers :P

Hm..

There are more snipers and spies on a losing team because they require little to no teamwork to be successful in killing. People will switch to these classes when a team is already failing, and making it worse instead of trying to work together and win.

That being said, Blackmesa and 2fort IR are too maps that do not enforce teamwork in order to accomplish any goal or terms of victory other than goofing around and racking up kills. Therefore class composition does not matter and any example which uses these maps are invalid for proving a point.

Better?
