3sev3n's sigs

Well, sorry it took me so long to come back and help. I've been busy. But Gimp to me, since I know Photoshop's layout, is so confusing XD So what I've tried to make looks pretty lame, and noobie. So I won't be able to really help ya with GIMP much. For some reason, all that I knew about GIMP kinda just went away XD haha.

The first one is interesting. Maybe because I'm listening to Pink Floyd, but it's got that trippy like look. You should have put your name in the bottom right and changed the layer mode around. I would like to see you playing with the colors of the render more. But it's a good one.

The second one reminds me of Chun Li from street fighter when she was younger maybe? I like how it looks. You could have changed the opacity of the layer directly behind the render by a few percent. Like 10 or maybe 15. This one would be fun to animate ;) It's good too.

I have a question, have you ever taken an art class. Other then what was required in grade school. Like in high school/college?

Btw, Deja Vu that is exact is so creepy!

I havent posted in this thread i think..O_o
but ive seen that you have made your sigs look much better.
And your style is coming together..
your just like me when i started in photoshop.
Now i think im pretty good in photoshop and only been using it for 5 or 6 months

I'm not saying that :D Just curious. Since a lot of things you learn in an art class you can apply to this sort of thing. I'm glad you are taking time though. It's coming to getter nicely now. Just needing experience and refining, always can learn something new.

As for assignments. Well, your doing good. I think your getting a lot of the basics down. I know your using GIMP now, and GIMP to me is like trying to learn how to do something that requires three arms when you only have two. So, if you can find some tutorials on working with borders, and font's that would be uber good for you. In my personal opinion, I like to stay away from the fonts that are all caps if I'm going to have the tag on there. That's just me. :P But if your going to just have the 3sev3n, then all caps would be good.

Nope you've never posted in here before, I've looked :P

Well honestly, it's the rainbow of color.
Making a signature is more then just playing with the background and adding the render on top of that. What your doing to me, is more or less messing around. But, learning is always about doing. So, the more you do, the more you learn. And with these programs, and not taking classes, playing helps you learn. So more or less, your not doing wrong, your just getting to know the program. Others might be like ew I don't like. But don't listen to 'em ;) Unless they tell you why, and try to help you out! Lol

Anyways, since I'm a nooblet with GIMP, I can't exactly teach you how to use the program. But I think you need to do what, probably, a lot of people did, including me, and that is to follow a tutorial step by step. And then you can later apply it to something you want, as well as doing other things you may know. So I want to assign you this. Follow the tutorial on the link below, it has all the things you need on that page on the description. If it doesn't look exact, it'll be a way for you to gauge your skills. It may be a little more then basic.

This is your assignment link: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ-1T4CZUek[/ame]

Note: If you want, you can explore some of the other videos too see if you can do some of those things. But careful, some of those tutorials aren't the best for GIMP.

ok first off thanks for pointing me in the right direction and now for this picture

1. i dont think this is the right render for this i should not have just picked one out of the bunch lol

2. i should have went with a diffrent color sceme something darker maby

ok here it is

taaa daa lolz

please Critique

No problem, sometimes it just takes time. ^_^

Critique----Simply your best man. It looks good. For once, HUGE text looks good on your sig :P and that's a good thing to hear. I like the effects a lot. The only bad thing I have to say about it is the colors might be too intense. You can simply just change the saturation a little bit. Not by much, just to where it's not like BAZAAAAM I'M THE COLOR RED. Lol But this looks real good man. I'm going to give you a 9/10. Only bad I see is the color intensity.

But on another note, you picked a good render, I'm sure not everyone would be like that's good, but that's because we all have our own tastes. Did you follow the tutorial I showed you? or another one? If you want, I can search for some more tutorials that you could follow.

On this website, there are some non-video tutorials that you could follow. I'm putting you to a direct link so you can just look through them.

ok so i used the same method if I do it more than once it will be easy to repeat the steps later in my sig making skills

I went with a less loud color sceme tell me what you think
also I was going to put a lens flair on the moon but forgot

You could have done A LOT more with the sig. I agree with Phalanx in the lil critique done in the rate the above user's signature thread.
It doesn't have the right kind of flow in my opinion, and is kinda big, and empty. The moon part, you could have actually done like a real looking moon, and made it look like you wrote your name on it! It kind of looks kinda like you got your head knocked hard and your looking up at her.

Just a note, be careful with female renders. Some of the higher up's might see it as something else.

ok heres the last sig im going to do with this method,I dont belive I should have used the circles in the back ground but o well please let me know what you think celtic

next week ill watch another tut and then the whole week ill use the method i learned and ill keep doing it till i can be one of the best ;)

anyway here it is

ps no risqu? girl this time :crying:

Yeah I'm not a big fan of what you did with the circles. It just seems out of place. It's kinda like your putting two ideas from two different signatures and putting them together.

But, I do like the text this time, it doesn't quite fit, but I like that you did something with it instead of a plain, flat color. I do like the render, not sure what you really did to the smudge layers. It looks a little off. The effect of the stuff like fading off into a lil' fire spirit thing was a good touch, but it seems like something is missing.

I don't want you to think I'm being harsh on you when I critique you. For a person who is new, your doing amazing. I've seen some people who just start out...and yeah it takes them a good 6 months to get this far. And you've done it in like a month? Keep up the good work. Your on a good path.

I think I'll do this same kind of a technique and show you how I did it :P at least similar!

Ok so here is what I came up with. I didn't spend a WHOLE lot of time on it. But for some reason, I really like it >_> Like I used the standard brushes that come with Photoshop CS3. All I did was multiply my render a few times. Smudged them, and changed their layer mode. I also did something called Semi-Desaturated SHEFing and I used a photo filter. Sometimes when you do basic stuff you can come out with some nice things :P You be the judge haha.

My mother is a professional artist, so I kinda have some of that in my blood. But I'm no where near professional :P Though I did teach her photoshop haha. But I can link you how to do Semi-Desaturated SHEFing on the bottom of this reply.

You have something here man, don't sell yourself short. Like I said, you've done amazing for only been at it for a lil over a month now.

This one is a pretty good one. I think the main thing is render choice. You haven't picked the best renders to do some of these things. really depends on what your trying to do too. But critique. She's kinda floating when she looks like she's sitting down. So I would have moved here further down maybe? It's ok to cut parts of your render out. You should look for renders with more action maybe? They're easier to work with since they have a bunch of qualities in them and makes it easier on you since you don't have to work as hard to make it look sweet. You know? I know you don't like borders, but I think you should experiment with some.

You should really try www.planetrenders.net for your renders, you have to sign up and stuff for the render part since it's different from the forum part. But meh, w/e lol. they have TONS of renders for you.

Here's a new one with the same technique

Well, plain has it's positives to it. Doesn't have to be too flashy. Flashy sigs either are too difficult for most people to do. Orr they are so cluttered with things, you don't really know what your looking at. About 80% of the signatures here are non-flashy. And the only flashy you get are the animated ones, and they're made tastefully.

If you're going for the solid color type of look like mine, you should think about doing a layer with a solid color, and changing it's mode to color. Messing with the opacity is a nice way to have control of it.

ok dont forget Im just trying new things and was goin to put a border but didnt on this one, I know the blue flower pops out of nowhere in the bath room but there was space over there lol and the render was just the girl and i got a picture of the bathroom off the webz. It was hard to find the angle and size to match the render. I guess I could have done alot more I seems unfinished. well here it is i was just looking at it after i put it on here and it looks like poop lol

Well, I'll be honest the blue flower is less random then the other stuff you put over the bathroom scene :P But I do like it. It's different. Instead of doing something with ACTION, it tells a story. At least more of a story? I'd give it a 8/10 for being unique and different. But like a 6.5 since it does feel unfinished. Border wouldn't make that big of a difference in this signature. I do have to say you need to use some different font's. Font's that actually go with your signature. Like mine for example. My last 3 sigs, are cute girls with headphones. So I used a cutie font. Since you went with a flower type of a theme there. You should have used a flower font. Just the lil minor details you know?

So things for you to improve on, just lil things. The font choice. It's pretty critical. I have a dedicated font folder actually(Render, brushes etc etc). And I think I'd like to see you use a color layer. Like the top layer is a green layer, and you put it to color mode and mess with the opacity. If the colors are too intense, you can flatten your image(This will be your last step) desaturate it little bit. Not much. And then mess with the color layer. If it doesn't look right still, then don't worry about it :P

this is the first time Ive used a cd4, I dont think Im ready for it yet but let me know what you think

That's actually a good signature. It has good flow. The blue C4D is a bit much to be honest. And your still having the rainbow in your signatures :P In my honest opinion. The colors look like they're fighting too much. Meaning they're a bit of distraction. My eyes get drawn to where the blue meets the red.

That's pretty good! I like it. I would have went with a different color with the text ^_^ But other then that. Pretty shweet :]

Well, your making very good steps. I like the signature. But I would have basically put the blood splat and your name behind her instead of in front. Really just needs some cleaning up ;)
But keep at it man. Your doing much better. You'd probably be pretty darn good with photoshop by now. But it got messed up, and now you have to use gimp :(
