Improvements and Likes of Jailbreak by Special Forces ? Panda
(I apologize for the long read, but a lot needed to be said. And I hope you all enjoy and understand where I am coming from)

*** I would like to just state before any of this is read, that it does not target any particular player/group of players, but as the server as a whole. There should be no harsh/unwanted feelings if you are one of the players and play the ways I talk about, this is a purely opinionated piece and things I?ve personally realized and experienced with other players*** Please rate and enjoy.

Improvements
?Last Requests

First I would like to cover the idea of Last Requests. Terrorists will go through hell and back round after round. This is done through all the free killing and free damaging, the variety of games and competitions just to get the ?Last Request?. And the one thing that many players don?t like is the concept of CTs being able to deny the Ts LR. While the argument given is that it is ?unfair? for the CTs. But in all reality, what is truly unfair? Is it that they may end up having to die and wait about 30 seconds, yet they are the ones who tend to shoot a Terrorist for moving their mouse in the beginning of the round and making them wait 10 minutes for a new round at points? That doesn?t seem right. I feel that a new rule should be implied that enforces that CTs must do all LRs. Given that many CT?s do the LR?s now, many still refuse and will not. There is truly no reason that a CT shouldn?t do it, there is no rank/KDR/etc that they need to be worried about. It is just highly annoying and frustrating from both a CT and a T perspective, not only me alone yet from others as well they have told me wanting to do something really fun to them, and a CT refusing to do it because ?they don?t have to? or ?Its boring/not fun for them? That?s just a pathetic argument, they are ruining one players LR just because ?They don?t want/have to? that just a selfish act. Now some will say that it is Ts shouldnt be able to do "anything" but my question is why not? Literatlly the worst thing that happens is that CTs will die for just a fraction of the time Ts do. Its a game, you had fun all round, now let them. I promise you, youll respawn shortly.

?Cell Orders

Next is the idea of orders coming out of cells; I?ve been in eGO jail and many other jailbreaks dating back from the very release and even before when it was just hosties on Lil_panic. And the ?warden? or ?orderer? typically does the same orders, because they learn from watching other players do it. And that is a completely fine and great thing, except when these orders they are giving are the extend where they are to severe or serious and ruin the fun of jailbreak. It is a game and games are meant to have fun. It is not fun being a Terrorist and moving your mouse slightly or knifing and having to be killed due to it. The typical orders that are given are to ?Shift walk out backwards, knifing distance, freeze by 5:05? And the first parts are fine, but the concept of freezing is pretty ridiculous. The term of ?freeze? covers: Moving/knifing/crouching/looking around/jumping/etc. And if a Terrorist does any of these, either by mistake or because they don?t know better they typically end up with a bullet to the face and long wait time. I am realizing many wardens who I appreciate who allow Ts to move about, yet just have to remain knifing distance, which is an amazing improvement. This allows for the Ts to both be killed in actual games, or for them to rebel which is 50% what Jailbreak is about. Given that almost all maps will typically have 1-2 guns and 1-2 vent cells. Its outrageous that we are having 20+ Terrorists remain frozen so they are not a ?Threat? to CTs which are armed with automatics and the Ts have only knives are typically behind fences or cages. And it is even more outrageous is watching very strict wardens slaughter and kill over half the T team because of the direction they were or weren?t facing. Or for any reason in general. Jailbreak is meant to be fun for 1 man/?warden? or CT team to get kills. Now some will say that "some players like to play strict while others have fun" that is cometely fine, EXCEPT when that 1 players fun is ruinijg it for multiple players. Especially when eGO as a whole constantly has new players which brings me to my next point.

?Treating New Players

New players, pubs, and the confused? This is mainly covering two main points I?ve realized while being in jailbreak. First is the idea of every CT typically will treat every T player the same, as a Veteran of Jailbreak and especially of eGO jail. We expect that every Terrorists, knows the maps, knows the rules and most importantly the ?implied? rules and regulations. I highly recommend that CTs are extremely more lenient when it comes to seeing new players. There have been multiple times, I?ve seen a new player join the server, come out of cells, and be shot because he/she was confused, then leave and rarely return again to the server. This just doesn?t leave to a lack of new jailbreak players, but the long term result of new eGO members. As a community we strive to grow and become bigger and well known, also recognized as a positive place to be. Yet because of the strictness and serverity that we treat players with, and the initial expectation we hold them at. We are losing those players and the possible influence that player could have or bring to eGO as a community and to the servers they play at. There needs to be change, wardens and CTs need to take their finger off the trigger and take time to explain to new players what to do and where to go instead of putting them in a setting of ?Survival of the fittest? and expecting them to learn and adapt to the settings and rules around them.

?Originality and Responsibility

Finally I want to cover a topic that isn?t so easy for some players, and another one that might spark some emotions, please remember this is not targeting anyone. First is the idea of originality of jailbreak. There seems to be this constant rotation on jailbreak as a whole when it comes to what happens in it. And its not referring to the maps, its talking about the constant unoriginality and ?constant cycle? we go through. Typically depending on the map, it goes cells = Couch game = Simon = Climb = Spray. Or any order it may be every round seems to be the same, while there are the ?freedays or hide and seek days? that will happen. The concept of this is that both the CTs and Ts are going through the same games and even the order of games every round. I realize its hard for anyone to actually reach out and try a new game or activity. But I feel it should be done, some players have absolutely no idea how to or even where to start, and I have respect for that, but the idea is that players should atleast be trying. All of the games played now had to start off somewhere, so if you need to try something, use props/items in the map or even get creative it should be done. The constant rotation of the same round after round, doesn?t just get boring for Terrorists who actually play for those games and achieve that LR but for the CTs guarding those player.

The last time is where some emotion might spark, and I am one of those people as well. But that is the idea of Admins on CT and taking responsibility for their actions. As we are eGO, we are typically held at different levels of accountability. When compared it is mainly Admins to non-admins? eGO/eG to e?s?. and especially for jailbreak we need to understand that and us as admins start taking responsibility and putting ourselves on the same level as pubs even. When it comes to any rule breaking: Free killing, free damaging, stack shooting, whatever it may be. When we as admins do it, we realize its wrong and are mistaken and typically we apologize for it. But there are times, where even I have done it, where we keep ?screwing up? and we just apologize. But then when it comes to other players, e?s or pubs and they will do it, we are trained to do a warning and revoke. I feel even admins need to follow that standard. There are multiple times I?ve seen an admin break a rule, not on purpose but they do it, and they will typically apologize, but do it again or break another rule. And we set ourselves above the standards which we shouldn?t. And it is very very hard, seeing a pub or an average player ask me, ?can you revoke ******? and I say ?no, they are admin? and they will ask ?but they broke the rules too, if I did that I would have been revoked? and all I can respond with is ?I am sorry but it just happens that way?. And it shouldn?t be that way what so ever. If any player admin or not is messing up, they need to accountable for their actions and deal with themselves if needed. It may not be easy, but it?s fair and will honestly give others a chance. As any other admin know, the admin chat is honestly a brotherhood that forms between each other, it?s a place we communicate and joke about each other, but that bond that forms between most players, also creates a friendship or even an immunity where admins at least when it comes to the same rank, wont fight or do anything about it based on the idea of rank and they know better but it was a mistake. In actuality besides the concept of rule breaking, should be the idea of admins taking responsibility for their actions. Multiple I?ve seen an admin break a rule, and a player will call them out on it, and the admin simply responds with ?drop it? those two words save a lot of time usually and will sometimes calm an unneeded situation. But also at the same time, we don?t like to show that we are wrong or especially admit it to others. I dealt with it a lot when I was an pub and an e and have seen it as both an eG and an eGO. We typically have 5+ admins on, if someone makes a mistake, I?m just asking to take the time to explain to the player, instead of pushing them aside and ignoring them and if they remark back ?action will be taken?.

Likes/Favorite parts of Jailbreak

All in all Jailbreak is a great place to be and is the server I spend 99% of my time while on Counter-Strike. It is a place where one can meet new players, rebel and have a great time as a whole. From the initial picking of warden, to the options of games, to the variety of instantaneous rebelling and LRs is an experience I have no seen in any other game or mode. To be more specific, eGO Jailbreak is not only a place, but a community of players. It is where the new players can feel welcome and slowly learn the rules, but also get to meet new players who can help them and further their experience into eGO and possibly get them to join us. It is also a place of many emotions, from the happiness of winning a round or a game, to the anger from being free killed for no reason to the comedy that a player will type or say or by the actions they do.

From a personal experience, before I joined eGO I used to play competitively and had constant scrims practices and hated it, I was held at such a level I did not want to constantly be held at, yet with Jailbreak it for everyone and anyone. It stretches from the newest of players to the old school veterans of the game. Anyone can be a star in the eyes of jailbreak. Everyone player as their own uniqueness to them; either by the way the rebel, the scores the put up, the games they do, or even to the positive energy they bring to a server when players know they are they. eGO Jailbreak is a place where I have gained a lot of great friends that I wouldn?t typically come to know or even talk to. It is a game of both bonds and favoritism when it comes to either special treatment all the way to picking players to live and players to die. It also to the trickery that many wardens to trying to catch un-expecting Terrorists off guard. It is a great place for any age, gender or race of people. Typically everyone is understanding and excepting just like communities in the world.

Thank you?.

Finally I wanted to thank everyone who is part of the Jailbreak server, either from the original server players who made it to what it is, all the way to the current day players who keep it going all the time. Without you guys, it wouldn?t be anything like it is and wouldn?t be known for what is known for. Everyday the server is slightly improving and getting better with each new player and skill that is used. And I just wanted to say Thanks for making it a great place to always be and have fun. Last I want to encourage players to stand out, be unique and make a difference in the server. Don?t always follow the trend and do exactly what others are doing. Even if your ideas are crazy, it gets you noticed (Trust me). Just don?t get to crazy haha. Going above and beyond the call of duty isn?t a bad thing what so ever, but is what I would like to see players do!

Great post! I agree with everything that you're covering. I would like to see some changes like this made to the jail to improve game play for everyone.

I'm pretty much in the same mind set with this. I really do agree with the cell orders though. The T's are usually trapped behind a fence/rail. They are no threat to CT's unless baiting occurs. So freezing is a bit strict, i personally have them use no movement keys more for the safety of the CT's.

I really do hope this post sparks something on the creative side in newer jail players and even "veterans"

Great post i agree with everything you said especially the part about last request

Great thread. Every time I see my steam pop-up saying "Special-Forces" has started playing CS:S. I honestly get giddy as to what antics you will bring to the jail server. You always help new people and try to make everyone have as much fun as possible. The things you do for the jail server are incredible and I love it. You contribute so much, and this post, hopefully, will allow others to start contributing even more, just like you have.

let them run on the rails man. like a boss.

I feel that a new rule should be implied that enforces that CTs must do all LRs. Given that many CT?s do the LR?s now, many still refuse and will not. There is truly no reason that a CT shouldn?t do it, there is no rank/KDR/etc that they need to be worried about.

I cannot agree with that more. Whenever a T wants to do an LR that puts the CTs in a position where they can be killed, there are almost always a few CTs who refuse. I usually handle this by having the T kill these individuals, as they are, in essence, delaying the round. I understand the rules state they have the option of sitting out, but they don't do so without arguing about it. Honestly, whether you are a pub, member or admin, you should not be playing as a guard if you are worried about your score. If you are, however, a more competitive player, I encourage you to play as a prisoner and rebel against the guards. After all, Jail is a roleplay mod; you should choose the side that best suits you.

Next is the idea of orders coming out of cells... It is not fun being a Terrorist and moving your mouse slightly or knifing and having to be killed due to it.

This is, to me, an action that only results in unhappy players emptying the server. I understand T's will have guns. I understand that T's will shoot and kill CT's with these guns. However, I do not understand why most wardens will kill a large portion of the T team in fear that they will be shot with one of these guns. Let me explain; there is only one reason for making the T's come out, face their cells and be frozen: knowing immediately who the rebels are. Usually these rebels will have guns on them, as rebelling under these orders is difficult to do so without one. Now, I understand being killed by a T with a gun at the start of the round is not fun, but do you think the T who you just shot for moving an inch had any more fun? By the way, you had a gun to defend yourself with; they didn't. Wardens, we need to, frankly, let it go. We WILL be killed. It's Jail; but we should not ruin others' fun due to our selfish desires.

We expect that every Terrorists, knows the maps, knows the rules and most importantly the ?implied? rules and regulations. I highly recommend that CTs are extremely more lenient when it comes to seeing new players.

Honestly, whether a guard is dealing with a new or veteran prisoner, they should try to be as lenient as possible. Give the T (especially if he/she is new) a few seconds to react to orders. If they don't get something, EXPLAIN it to them. We don't want new players leaving because we make the learning curve vertical. Now, on the idea of general leniency, I feel that this is always needed in Jail. Guards, relax and have fun while playing. You'll get killed. You'll kill prisoners. That's the fun of Jail; that's why we play on this server. However, don't give T's orders that require them to stop and think how to follow them without being killed. Now, of course, leniency will vary depending upon the situation. When half of the T team is rebelling, then there is no reason no give loose orders. However, especially when the prisoners are being nice (a rare event, I know!), give some looser (and more fun) orders. Enjoy the game. You play it for entertainment.

First is the idea of originality of jailbreak.

I know it's VERY difficult to give abnormal orders (I struggle with this, too), especially when on an older map, but once in a while, try something new. Have the T's do a race through the map or an obstacle course of some sort. Apply a real-life game to Jail (tag, scavenger hunt). Do something out of the ordinary. Everyone will benefit from it.

But that is the idea of Admins on CT and taking responsibility for their actions.

This, as Panda said, is a very taut issue. While most admins are very responsible players, there are always the few who may occasionally break rules. Whether this rule-breaking is accidental or premeditated, it will happen. This does not, by any means, deem it acceptable. For example, if an admin accidentally freekills a prisoner, this is a violation of the rules. However, we do not warn this player, as they (hopefully) are remorseful of the incident. If this keeps happening accidentally, they may want to suicide as a message to the T's. However, if this freekilling (or similar rule-breaking) is not accidental, they should contemplate their choice of team and even status in this community. I also dislike when a pub is calling admins out (simply because they shouldn't have to), but we can do some small things about it.

All in all Jailbreak is a great place to be.

Absolutely. Jail was the first eGO server I played on (and how I became involved with the community). The players are great and so is the game. We, as players, need to simply remind ourselves to play by the rules, yet have fun. Stop worrying about scores, stop giving strict orders, but rather start trying new and innovative things. Start making Jail more interesting. Start having fun.

I wish to thank Panda for his post and continued dedication to the Jail server.

I got a little hazy halfway through and stopped reading but for what I did read I can both agree and disagree on several things. However, when it comes to things like moving at the beginning of the round, it's just like you said: a matter of opinion. Some wardens prefer the strict aspect of Jailbreak and like to try and keep things under control. For some, jailbreak is 100% rebel and escape if you are T and 100% move and thin out the T's as a CT. For other CT's it's just a matter of letting the T's have fun while still controlling the T's so that it's not one big rebel-fest every round. It's all a matter of personal preference. If a warden wants to make them freeze it's within his right to do so and he shouldn't be thought less of for playing the way he enjoys playing.

As far as LR's go, I agree about 95% that CT's should do most LR's. However, there needs to be some boundary as to what can and can't be done. LR shouldn't be a time where T's can just kill all the CT's, but it should be a little more relaxed. A lot of CT's tend to be really uptight about getting LR over and done with so that they won't die; I agree with you there. But it doesn't mean that it should be a T free-for-all either.

Anyway, just my opinion on the matter and such.

Just got home, 7 am, sooo drunk, great read. Quite the essay my friend, although I am not a jail fanatic, I used to enjoy it occasionally until recently where people just started being trigger happy. It's a shame what jail has been reduced to.

I sure hope the leadership will get a hold of this post and really read the words of wisdom. I completely agree with 100% of this post, and any changes proposed will help make the eGO jail server one of the more fun ones.

After reading this for Panda, when I got to the section about the admins, it gave me the thought that I most probably share with quite a few people (having friends/players saying the same thing). Anyway, the thought is this: Admins/clan members & pubs do not always get treated the same. One example is that of STs. Though ST can be fun, and gives the T(s) chosen a chance to do what the wish, it is also based on favouritism/friendship a lot of the time. I have seen players give ST to the same friends/players every time they can. Some will only give this ST to admins, whether in friendship, or possibly an approach to reach an Admin level themselves due to hearsay of good will. Either way, I do find the ST system to "abused" by those that give it to friends, or simply base it on 'favouritism'.

I have seen players (Panda being the main person I've noticed) that do give ST to random players, some even try and avoid clan members and just address pubs with ST, which to an extent, is more fair, in my opinion of course.

One last note; I strongly agree with what Panda has taken his time to write out, and I surely hope that these issues are addressed as to aid the community and server as a whole.

i didnt read this cuz im too lazy, but from the comments i would give this a -A :D

Being very new to the eGO jail server, I can relate to the feelings of a new player. I was lucky enough to first log onto Jail while some nice CT's were logged on. They took the time to explain the rules and hold off on shooting and instead warning myself first. Thats something I rarely see though, the warnings. I have learned to take the time to warn a T that is wandering around the cell block, and tell him to head to the activity where everyone else is. However, as stated by many before me, a lot of CTs will use their trigger as their warning.

There have been times when I have gotten really frustrated on Jail, and so have many others. I feel lack of variance in the games adds to this, both as a Ct and T. We all know that after many back to back "days" of couch game, as a T we get bored. But the same goes for playing as a CT. When a CT is forced to sit around watching the same game performed time after time, they get bored, and try to make their own fun. Most people only see the T's making their "own fun" (i.e. jailbreaking / rebelling) but CTs freekilling is essentially the CT's making their own fun. So if as a group, we worked to make more fun games, freekilling would be reduced (a thing I constantly hear bad about). Now dont expect others to create new games. One thing i find handy is ghosting around the map when dead. This allows you to explore new places for the sometimes 10 min your dead. Exploring can help create new game ideas, and let you plan them out more efficiently so you aren't stalling as much when its your turn as warden. Still cant think of new ideas after that? Well in your freetime, create your own game on an eGO jail map (thats right, you have the ability to do that) and mess around with the games, try new paths to places, and find the hidden secret passages many maps have. It will train you to be a more effective warden/CT and give you escape plans as a T.
Now I was on another Jail server (dont hate..read on) and I noticed they give bombs to T's who make enough $ (escape enough rounds, live a whole round, kill a CT) and this is something id like to see on the eGO jail server. It will keep CTs more alert and on their toes. It will hinder CT's from baiting (cant go close to a T if he will explode and kill you). It gives Ts incentive to follow along for the round and do the Wardens tasks so he lives (live the round you make more $). And finally, T's will try to plan jailbreaks better, to make more $. As said by Panda, escaping is 50% of the server, it adds the second element to it.
To end this long response to a long post, I recommend one more thing. I want teamkill (friendly fire to you other game players) to be enabled. In real Jail (sorta what eGO jail is modeled after) prisoners fight, and kill each other (i know, getting a little gruesome arent we?). But why not add that to this game? Just another element that will keep CTs on their toes, i mean, who doesnt want to break up a prison fight? Not only will Ts rebel against CTs, but they'll rebel against themselfs! Now lets look at the CT side of this. Ct x freekilled, now warden Y can kill CT X. There have been times where i was a Ct, and the warden was trying to tick off the CT's. Well with teamkill enabled, the warden will have to be on his/her feet, because their CT's could rebel as easily as the T's. I just feel teamkill would add a whole new exciting element to our game. Its ideas like these that keep eGO jail going!
