Improvements for Jail Server

So I may be "new" to the Jail server, but I've seen a lot in my time logged onto it. There has been countless hours of fun, meeting new people, and just having a great time. But there has been times of bad experiences, frustration, and rage-quit moments. I've played a few of the new maps that seem to be cycling in, and I love some new improvements. One of them allowed T's to plant bombs, and this in turn made CTs a little more alert and actually "into" the game, rather then turning passive (which I have seen).

I created this thread as a breading ground for everyone's thoughts, comments, and ideas that concern our eGO jail server. Throughout countless rounds, there have been occasional comments from countless members. If we could pool all these ideas into one place (this thread), they would get heard more easily by the right people (you designers, programmers, and admins out there!).

Now for my thoughts on Jail (WARNING: This may scroll down a bit)
Starting off at the first day I clicked onto the eGO Jail server, I was a frustrated man. I spent more time dead then I did alive actually participating. I actually thought you had to be awarded the ability to be CT (still see that occasional person ask to be CT ) and that my friends, is the mindset of the eGO Jail server noobie. What have I seen after that? Lets see...Mass murder of the noobies! Its 5:04, and new player is still in his/her cell. Well you can guess trigger happy CT warrior over there has some target practice on our new player. However, if the CT had bothered to look over in chat, he/she would have noticed the ill fated T was asking all along WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!?!?! I think...no I KNOW we (us eGO members) sometimes forget that EVERY ROUND more and more new members click onto our server for THE FIRST TIME! (most of which pass the MOTD up because they're too anxious to play some CSS!!!) Yet I've seen countless wardens call out directions like they expect everyone to be 100% proficient in the map itself and the server rules. Even I still get this. I am always downloading new Jail maps, and there are still first times on a map for me. Yet when I get to a map for the first time, I always dreadfully hear, "All T's when cell doors open head straight to _____ (usually pool or something weird)."
Well ill have NO CLUE WHERE THAT IS! And 100's of eGO noobies are thinking the same thing. And instead of CT's pointing you in the right direction, they'll watch you wander in the wrong direction and shoot you. Its amazing how one minute into a round, before ANY game has been played, 24 T's have been reduced to 7 T's. Seriously, is everyone forgetting this ISNT TARGET PRACTICE?!
Really, if you want to shoot the living @#$#@ out of @#$@#%, open up GMOD and spawn GMAN a bazillion times! Because out of those 100's of first timers on our server, only a few actually have the nerve to bare the crap we give them!
So heres my fix #1) Make our jail server more welcoming, and put more consequence on trigger happy CTs (ban bad ct from ct team for like a few rounds?)

Now onto really long rant #2 (Congrats for reading this far...this may get ranty though...)
Now I already have shared my appreciation of the bomb addition in that one map I forgot the name of (looks like something from COD). I like how it changes things up, but most importantly, puts CTs on their toes. Well the other day I took a visit to other Jailbreak servers (if you do this, mute your speakers or you'll go deaf) just to get some ideas for our server. Well one thing i liked is the money/weapon system. It awards T's (like in regular CSS deathmatch games) with money for like staying alive all round, LR, killing a CT, whatever it may be. Then as rounds pass, the T can use that $$$ to buy BOMBS!!!!!!!! How awesome!!! It sure gets rid of the baiting CT's (dont get too close or BOOOM). Sure puts CTs on their heels more! and adds another awesome element to the game. So its a self sacrifice for the T, but the ability to loose your life in order to obliterate that Free killing @#$@# CT is worth every penny it costs.

Rant #3
Turn on the teamkill! Aren't we modeling real life jail in a way? I have seen a lot of prison breaks in my hours clocked in on the server. But it just gets boring after a while. And then it hit me, why cant we have prison fights? I.e. let the Ts knife each other? Rebelling T's could really go haywire and kill everyone. Ticked off wardens and admins can shoot the AFK CT that is just gun bait for the T's. 1v1 fight for the death for lr? I think YES! I know I went on another clans map that allowed this, and wow was this element fun (still I warn you they talk LOUD and ALOT! turn off speakers!). Just my $.02. But when an element such as this would make CTs more alert and follow rules better, and allow Ts to have more fun, i dont see why It cant be put in place?

Now lets hear what you have to say!

Turning on friendly fire would be so bad... t's would knife their entire team and greifers would be all over the server. But the first on you had is pretty decent. And we do ban them from ct for usually 3 rounds.

Agreed. As fun as it might be for a time, the number of griefers would far outweigh the benefits of turning friendly fire on. However, I do agree that we could all be a little more attentive to who is new to the servers and who isn't. We can't expect everyone to know how to play jail.

Nice thread,
Zimmy

Well jail is bad anyways wardens aren't creative enough and just give the same orders every round but I kinda like your 2nd opinion hopeefully though when my map is done ct's will make it more fun for the t's

I like your thoughts. My posts were created to be agreed to and disagreed upon. Keep up the discussion.
Here's something I just thought of, the map designers should write up a little instruction thing for their map. Some maps have some neat looking games that I just cant figure out what their intention is for the life of me. I think some wardens just dont know how to do some of the games. Explanation would be key

maybe i want to see Friendly fire on for an week i wonder how long the cts / ts and i wonder how long they lasted o.o

Friendly fire sounds like a good idea, but you would quickly realize its not. The amount of griefing that would happen would be ridiculous.

The money idea sounds cool, and if we could do something like that I might actually join that server again. It would be a really nice change.

I personally like the jail server as it is. Although rulebreaking CT's do get revoked from CT for a few rounds.

Some sort of ranking system that only counts kills you do as a T towards other CT's, ( Obviously not when you're a CT ) And not when you're on LR would be pretty good. Would make rebelling a little more competitive and maybe those trigger happy CT's would join T looking to impress.

I like the first and 2nd Idea. When I first played jail, I got killed ALOT. I had to go on google, to find terms like "shift walk", and LR. I also like the idea, where you could buy something, like, a small pistol, if you kill like, 3 CT's. And maybe, if you kill 3/4 of the whole entire CT team, you could get a M4A1. That will make CT's REALLY alert.

We have enough Ts screaming freekill in chat, let alone another group of CTs joining in.

Jail is naturally complex with its rules/traditions, and the only way to make it accessible to everyone first round would mean dumbing the rules down. New people need to follow what everyone else is doing if they are lost or confused, and eventually they'll get the hang of things.

I know NO3 JB server does a first round freeday to make sure everyone gets a chance to explore the map. Also something I would like is an lr plugin. Tired of doing s4s and losing because I don't get health regen each game of it or Someone cheats.

The possibilities for your LR are endless. Just be creative and don't be afraid to kill CT's if they're not complying. You can make them do games on the map, shot 4 shot, deagle toss, body toss, spin the deag, octotag or a number of different thing. That is why we don't have an LR plugin because we don't want to limit the number of options for people.

we cannot do friendly fire, due to stacking, ct getting in the way of bullets. etc. in future map builds, as a T player and CT player and warden. i have tried to be fair all across the board and ask/warn people about rules, baiting and how to play games. and it is hard to pay attention to the chat along with cover your fellow CT while in jail server because in that split second you can have the whole team rebelling due to one CT dying. for rules. it would be nice, rather than people just typing "motd" to have a list of rules that pop up on the left side of the screen and you have to push a "#" to access more rules or to exit it. (just a possible idea)

my best advice for CT's, be mindful of chat and warden commands along with your surroundings and your ways away from T's if your too close. and T's, never be afraid to ask questions. noone can help you unless we know what you ask. jail is a frustrating server at times, along with newer people trying to be warden. how else will someone new to warden learn unless they try it, correct?

be patient =) and if you have questions ask me. ill do my best to answer, and if i do not know. i will ask a superior and get back with you. we are all friends who share a common hobby!

No one values this opinion Dan. You'll just be gone in a week again anyway :)

This is discipline. Allowing them to die, and go into spectate mode will let them see the overview of the entire map, explore it for a bit, see how the game-flow works and etc. <- If you're just sitting around in spec not doing anything, you're being hypocritical. Everything you need is there if you pay attention for a few rounds. After a few map cycles, you should naturally pick up everything, maybe not enough to warden, but enough to play as a non-rebelling T.
Again. Spectator mode does wonders in this apartment. If they die, and see where everyone else has gone, they will know next round. Assuming they don't rage-quit. And if we have to direct them EVERY SINGLE ROUND... That wastes time that they could learn by themselves. Plenty of people have done it. If you can't handle a bit of self-teaching, then jail is apparently not for you.
(most of which pass the MOTD up because they're too anxious to play some CSS!!!) Yet I've seen countless wardens call out directions like they expect everyone to be 100% proficient in the map itself and the server rules.
The rules are pretty straight forward in the MOTD. It's not like we can't say we didn't tell you the rules. They're right there on the MOTD. There's also a link in the MOTD to the jail rules/gameplay. Which explains the entire gamemode. Being literate helps.
Even I still get this. I am always downloading new Jail maps, and there are still first times on a map for me.
Spectator mode. Also, a lot of the names of areas have been fabulously put int he minimap in your upper right hand corner. Of course, certain terms aren't on there, but the general idea of the areas are there. Again, exploreeeeee in specccccc.

Seriously, is everyone forgetting this ISNT TARGET PRACTICE?!
It is for those who cannot follow the simple instructions by the warden. This is to get rid of those wasting time, running into walls, spamming text chat, etc. We aren't your baby sitters, do not expect us to teach every single person the basics of jailbreak. There wasn't someone holding your hand through playing de_ or cs_ maps, now was there?
So heres my fix #1) Make our jail server more welcoming, and put more consequence on trigger happy CTs (ban bad ct from ct team for like a few rounds?)
There's a big difference between 'trigger-happy CTs' and those that kill if demands aren't immediately met. If I am a warden, I will give you maybe 5 seconds of lag time, but that's it. After that, you are dead if you aren't either going toward the objective, or you are doing what was stated. Wardens work differently. Some are very demanding, some are very lax. They are not trigger happy, they are just strict. Trigger happy = freekillers, imo.

Then as rounds pass, the T can use that $$$ to buy BOMBS!!!!!!!! How awesome!!! It sure gets rid of the baiting CT's (dont get too close or BOOOM). Sure puts CTs on their heels more! and adds another awesome element to the game.
I've played on several servers that have this kind of plugin, and some with throwing knives, buying items, etc. This honestly gets annoying after a while. Also, wasn't you who just stated you didn't like sitting around while dead? If you go boom in the first few seconds of the game, they die, and that's AT LEAST two players who are sitting around in spec for a cheap plugin that requires no real skill except to push a bind. Jail tends to be more CT sided for a reason.

Turn on the teamkill!
Right. Because getting knifed to death by the guy you share a cell with is way better than being killed by a 'trigger happy CT'.

The jail rules are fine as they are. People want variation, but don't understand what sacrifices you make when you vary the game a little. It's in a pretty good state as it is. The only thing that would make it any better is to have maps that allow Ts to rebel a bit more easier (But not to the point where any idiot could knife a wall and magically be in the armory with an m249.).

I don't like breaking down every point you have, but there's nothing you're really offering the jail server here, and you keep contradicting everything you're saying. I like the enthusiasm, but I'd rather have people on the server who are more patient, not twitchy, MOTD skipping, non-rule reading players who need their hand to be held through a rather simple gamemode.

Jail nights are on Mondays maybe they can turn on friendly fire then and we can test it.
