Dust and Aztec, A thoughtful discussion

I love Christy's idea.
but also I would still love to see a CSGO demolition server.

Anything but rotation please

Send me a PM about the demolition server and I'll replace classic casual when I get a chance

While I originally thought the switch to Aztec was nothing short of brilliant, I found myself recently rethinking the decision.
I am under the impression (please correct me if I am wrong) that the switch was made due to the poor numbers on the dust server.
However, Aztec has been up for a few days already, and I don't see it being filled very often. The difference between seeding and filling up dust and Aztec is huge. Playing dust 4 on 4, 5 on 5 is fun, while playing with comparable numbers on a map as large as Aztec is, for me, frustrating and not fun at all.
It could be that with a little more publicity, Aztec will become more popular, but I find myself thinking that Aztec will, unfortunately, remain unpopulated for the majority of the day.

When reading your post, I had a thought, which I think is actually a good idea and might appeal to some members here: perhaps we could convert the server into a rotation server. Not a server which rotates through the various de maps, but a server which rotates its objectives on a, perhaps, monthly basis.
For example, we could make a vote every 20th of the month, which would last for a week, and would let the members of eGO decide what type of server they would like for the upcoming month. Possible suggestions would be setting a specific map (i.e, dust, Aztec, etc.), designating the server as a gungame server for the month, zombie mod, de rotation server, or whatever any member of eGO suggests be added to the poll for the month.

I feel that this could be a successful idea since it would reflect the community's true wishes. If there is sufficient support for a dust server, then every month dust would win at the polls. If people really wanted to play gungames, then gungames would win the polls.

Just an idea.

I think this is a fantastic idea that has balance. I feel we will find that in the up and coming months with CS:GO coming out and gaining popularity, a lot of CS members will head over to those maps just due to the "new" nature of it. If we could have one server slot which is "fresh" every month, I feel that would keep players coming back to try out something new

From what I have been told, whenever a new popular request map was put in place, it did good for a few weeks then died off. Well with this idea, right about when it dies off is when we would be changing it (4 weeks).
Like maybe every month with the new map, a thread is ongoing here on division discussion with a division wide "rtv vote", this would help in such case that the months selected map becomes "dead". In the thread, they can voice such concern and the idea of a switch to a new map before the month period is over.

I think Kaps idea will give CSS the edge it needs to stay alive and well with a new CS series member coming out soon.

My second choice would be to split up the server to two "competitive" servers with 20 slots as Christy had mentioned. Pistol round to start, turn off $16K, etc etc

And my final idea into this discussion will be an "Unlimited server"
Where we run all of the fantastically designed unlimited maps. This may keep players coming back, because we would be offering something that you cant get on another server. There's already a lot of gungame, minigame, surf, and even aztec/dust2/de_dust servers out there. I cant seem to find an unlimited server. As I said, innovation is what will keep us alive with GO on its way

Other. Do a rotation server, but be sure to promote it well, such as automated messages in the server that say something like, "Did you know eGO now has a (insert server name here) server? Type !servers in chat and check it out!" Because in the past, we've had no promotion for new servers.

I think a deathmatch/gun game server would be nice, we always lacked support for such game modes.

We have had server message spam for months now. It's being advertised

We've had competitive/rotation servers in the past that have done better then de_aztec/dust. If anything change it to a rotation server or close it.

What about a Dust and an Aztec server, both just 20 slot competitive play. With competitive rules and server configs.

I myself dont play competitive as I suck but it might bring in some people who do like the competitive play.

Dust is not a competitive map, if it were switched to a 20 slot server, you would see most people join CT especially if it were a competitive style server. Awps would be enabled, and CTs can easily camp and watch underpass with an awp or watch tunnels from B.

Aztec isn't also typically a scrim map, but there are scrims done. The map is rather large, though it may be okay for a 20 people.

In my opinion, a 20 man competitive rotation with league maps would be more ideal, so people can learn maps and what not.

I agree with the people that want a dust/aztec rotation. I think 30 minutes for each map than switch to the other would be a nice idea. In the past I have come across several people in other servers that compliment me because we host a dust server that not a lot of people do. This is rare because I usually get trolled when I wear my tag in most other pubs. So we do have a decent following of dust. To keep those dedicated players would be a good idea, and we can also gain more followers if people like Aztec. I also think it would be a smart idea if we can get a vote on the site about it. Even better if we can get a vote across all our cs:s pub servers to see what the majority opinion is. If we can get a few members with the authority to initiate a vote in our servers such as dust2, highschool, jail, office simultaneously, take those results and compare them with what people think on the site. We should be able to find out what most people would rather want.

I always played on Dust, most of the time it had quite a few people. I don't see Aztec having very many people playing. I don't see why it was changed, I could only guess that eGO members rarely played on it. There were always other people playing, except early mornings and midday when people are at work and school. The evenings/nights were filled with activity, though with few eGO members.

I am not a fan of the map Aztec. I would rather play Assault or Trains over Aztec. I don't like playing on the map because it's too wide open whereas Dust had a higher quantity of compact areas. Dust had many good long range and short range which were good for aggression and profession. :)

get rid of the server and turn jail into a 64 slot.

sounds OK to me!

My opinion

Both Aztec and Dust are CT sided with only 2 main routes for T's. Ric's idea is good for a votemap server, but we need to take action in evolving to the next gen CS, and thats with the GO Beta.

In fact, our CS:GO Beta servers are, a majority of the time, filled with pubs. When councilbear started the CS:GO Beta servers, they filled with pubs in one game of inferno, all pubs other than me and him.

tl;dr: Drop the server if its inactivity continues, add a CS:GO Beta server.
(Another classic casual, a classic competetive, or a demolition server like penguino said).

First off, Thanks Kanade for showing me this thread.

Second, Abbie i completely agree with you on dust not being as popular with ego members. Thats why i think it was replaced with aztec. I played the dust server on a daily basis, depending on the time or day it could be up to 3-4 hours and the server always had people in it, when it didnt it sure did fill up fast. I kinda refused to play the aztec server because i know if it became populated then it would have stayed. Every time i refresh teh aztec server, there is never more than 10 people playing (other than the first 2 days when it was full of ego members) but no public people. Correct me if i am wrong but are these servers for public use? Or ego members only?

The idea of a rotating dust/aztec server isn't, in my opinion that great. The dust serer was the ONLY populated dust server i could ever find. Try and find an aztec server that is full like the old dust was. From my experience, whenever a rotating server rotated to aztec, the server became empty.

If dust is brought back, I would like to see the 16k buy removed on the ct side, 16k start is fine :). Dust is a fun map even when there are 40 players, but when the cts can all buy paras, the "Rush" strategies go out the window and people camp. Or change the round time to 1:30, because honestly it takes 20-30 seconds to plant the bomb. Thats way there is less waiting around for people who die early in the round. Also another suggestion, Have an auto balance, If one side wins 3 or 4 rounds in a row, the other team gets the 2nd top player to help even it out.

You guys might not care that its gone, but imagine a sever you play daily just up and changed the map with no warning. Dust isnt as popular as dust2, but its looks more popular with public than the highschool server.

My favorite map was Assault because the server i played, i enjoyed the regulars and it was pretty populated server. It shut down out of nowhere and i stopped playing for 2 years. dont let me stop playing again

also, 6pm PST, 0 players on aztec server. dust would have 20+ players. :)
