Dust and Aztec, A thoughtful discussion

Lately there has been a lot of back and forth about the Aztec server change. Some good and some bad. The last thing I want is to wrong the individuals like yourselves who work the hardest in this division and enjoy playing in our servers.

I understand there is some emotional attachment to this particular server, but I am not here to encourage that type of overreaction. I need a thoughtful discussion on what you think are the pros and cons of each map and what solutions you would suggest.

I know we often give you the answer "Rotation servers are not an options because.. " and I generally agree with this reasoning because of prior experiences. That being said - This thread is not going to be a collection of people whining. I am looking for a thoughtful discussion where we can all get along and not step on people's toes.

All of this being said. Give me your ideas. Posts that just say switch it back to dust will be deleted. We are looking for your reasoning and why we should make a change.

Possible Solutions:
Change it to Zombie server

Change it to Zombie server

Change it to Zombie server

Change it to Zombie server

Change it to Zombie server

Change it to Zombie server
fixed it for you

Im the one person in the css world that likes aztec. So my vote is with that. We already have enough dusting to do with dust 2... Ha ha ha!

I believe that we could do one of two things.

1) Get rid of dust and just keep Aztec. Its a fun map much better than dust, at least that is what I believe.

2) Make the server into a Minigame server for a while and see how people respond to that.

Oh and btw to everyone, we had a zombie server but almost no one played on it....If we do make a zombie server make it to where the zombies are BOTS and the players have to kill them off.

If we do make a zombie server make it to where the zombies are BOTS and the players have to kill them off.

I played in a server that had that a while back. It different health/speed values for different human classes, meaning anyone who wanted to live picked the fast guy with a tmp and ran circles around the zombies. Needless to say, playing against AI gets old after a while. They just don't adapt like a human would.

After reading most of these posts, I'll reiterate my opinion, along with some of the great ideas I have seen.

It seems a vote, in one form or another, is the popular choice here. After leadership switched back to dust just now, it has been pretty popular, but we all know that won't last.

I say we have monthly votes on the forums. Maybe even on the server, if that's practical and possible.

An example:

"The map is currently: de_dust.
What map would you like to play next month?

1. de_aztec
2. de_compound
3. de_nuke
4. Keep it the same!"
5. I do not play on that server so my vote is neutral."

This could be a sticky in our division forums, IMHO. The server could have an automated message informing players and eGO members alike of the vote on that server, which could also increase forum traffic and allow us to gain more members in the process. Win-win.

I think this is the smartest way of going about it. The server may gain popularity by those who dislike dust but like aztec, or other classic maps (like me). It will also retain those faithful who have played on dust for ages. And, if for any reason the trend changes, it allows for new favorites to be found, if any.

If the server on the whole is still dead, then we can easily tell this by the lack of votes and traffic. It will be clear that it has become, simply, an obsolete server.

Whatever we ultimately do, the looming release of CS:GO will null and void it, anyway. But I just want to have fun in the meantime!

Thanks for reading.

Why even have a 24/7 server. No one has a good rotation server anymore.

Have a vote on favorite maps, and rotate between them. Could be a 2 map rotation, could be 5... but I know I'd stick around that server the most if that was the case.

We don't need gimmicks like gun games, zombie mods, WoW mods.... just a good quality server with an excellent map rotation. You can even increase the round lengths if you don't want to rotate that much. And admins always have the ability to change the server to whatever map the collective wants to play. Or you can do an end of round vote on which map to go to next, which then gives the option to extend the map you're already on.

Zombie server seems legit to me, its quite popular especially if it has good maps

We had a zombie server not too long ago, it was full for a couple of weeks than it died. I don't think that would be a good choice.

I like koni's idea of a rotation server. Some of my favorite servers have been ones that have a mapvote at the end of a map, with no (or a very high majority) rtv.

We could even bring in the forum vote idea of whether to add a certain map to the rotation, or if a map rarely gets chosen/server empties when map is used there could be a forum vote whether to keep the map.

I rarely see zombie servers with more than a few people, most GG servers I see are half full at best (though this would be my vote if it were to be a mod), warcraft mod tends to be dominated by the few people who have played it a long time and have had a chance to build up their character (makes it hard to bring new people in). I really can't see a mod working.

Rotation seems like the best bet to me.

Edit: I <3 Bhop servers but you need 200 tick for it to be good, and they are always empty (not so much of a problem with bhop)

Zombie server.

Zombie server.

Zombie server.

On a more serious note, I've noticed a dramatic drop in the Highschool server rankings/population. Is there anything we can do to bring back to it's prime? We should hold some sort of event with prizes (I can supply the prizes. I have 19 games or so stored in my steam inventory).

Dust is my favorite CSS map by far and I REALLY would like to keep it.
I do, however, like the monthy poll idea as well. We could also do the same to Italy, combine it into one monthly poll, take the #1 and #2 most voted and apply them to the servers. The one thing I fear is that many people that play the Dust server don't come here on the forums and so the CSS opinion and the eGO opinion could differ and the majority of those on the Dust server could have their opinion left out. A surf server would be fantastic, but I don't think I would take anything over Dust in the end. What I would prefer most: keep it to dust. That's my opinion.
