They failed to do the Warden's orders, so they die. That's the entire point of CT on Jail.. so this thread already makes no sense.
The warden may have told me to run to four corners, but I decided to run to maze and face the door. I might be at the wrong location, technically I'm disobeying orders but I'm not harming any guards so why should I die for it?
Thread. Sense. Has none.
I'd object to comparing getting killed right out of cells with running to an incorrect location, for several reasons.
When the cell doors first open, all of the terrorists are in one location. Not only that, if they're told to freeze right out of their cell, then they're not only in the same place, but they're stationary. Hence, the only reason why you'd kill somebody for facing the wrong direction is because you're looking for reasons to kill terrorists. Again, there is absolutely no threat to the counter-terrorists; if there's a gun in the cells on a particular map, I always give the terrorists a few chances to turn around first before shooting. Why? Because what are they going to do with a glock when I'm across the map with a rifle?
To compare this to your example, the terrorists aren't all necessarily in a nice neat line, and so aren't really in the same place. They're also moving, which increases the risk to the CTs. Lastly, if somebody's running to the wrong place, and they don't respond to warnings (or it's clear they're making a break for a gun), then the threat to the CTs is substantially increased. So it's much more appropriate to shoot in this situation than it is right out of cells.
I understand the point some of you are trying to make - largely, that it's the terrorists' own fault for not paying proper attention to the orders. Further, that 5-10 minutes isn't actually that long, and if you don't want to wait that long, then don't play jail. What I'd respond with is two-fold. Firstly,
jail is a game. Why would I play a game when I don't have fun? Nobody wants to sit and watch other people playing for 10 minutes, only to sit for 1 minute jumping around a tiny cell, to be shot and have to spend another 10 minutes watching. As has been pointed out before, this has led to emptying of our jail server in the past. I think we've come a long way since the time I originally posted this thread, but nonetheless, we need to be mindful of the entertainment value that jail can, and should, provide. Dying right out of cells effectively kills that entertainment value. Secondly, while it is technically a violation of the warden's orders to face the wrong direction, it's an unsatisfying, and infuriating way to die - particularly when you wish to participate in the games that the warden subsequently plays (which you now have to watch). This, in my opinion, is not "just part of jail" - this is what's killing jail. It's a great example of poor wardening. "Well, you should have been listening" is, in my opinion, a terrible retort to my assertion, because it's not real life. I don't think it's anything like "studying for an exam", as Phantom373 says, since jail isn't real life. It should be much more relaxed than that.
The bottom line for me is what keeps people in the server. If some aspects of jail, that are technically within the rules, cause people to ragequit...then why would we continue to do it? It's illogical from a gaming standpoint, and more practically, from a server-filling standpoint. We want to attract people to our jail server, and setting ourselves apart by not advocating this kind of pointless killing (even if it's within the warden's right to do so) is a great way to make our jail server a step above the others out there. And that's what it's all about! Having fun, and attracting people to our servers who have fun while they play on our servers as well.
