Anzio Update!

A thoughtful and constuctive post. Donner really needs no more extra help, its currently 8th and slowly climbing. All of our servers are still in the top 100, Strand is slipping, but we have restricted weapons to hopefully help the slow fills that Strand was experiencing.

Yes Anzio has needed help for a very long time, I myself have dumped 100's of hours into it. We are just asking you to come in and try it out, if you don't like it, don't play there. We will still support all our servers like we have already, we fill them up from the most popular down.

I think you missed the entire point.

DoD has a small player base. The amount of players is likely significantly smaller than when Anzio was launched back in 2011. Like the small number of players for DoD as a whole, we can think of DoD members and other eGO members who play on eG servers as a limited resource. When members are asked again and again to fill up a server like Anzio it lowers the population of our other servers the majority of time.

Events to fill up Anzio are held on almost a weekly basis. These events draw members who are playing in other servers, members who are playing other games, and members who are just hanging out in Vent. There is no long-term benefit for Anzio (the server goes back to empty once the event is over) but when we take members out of other maps, other servers can easily become empty or stay partially full instead of nearly full. Time, effort, and resources are being wasted on a server that has not done well for over two years.

Anzio's rank might be growing but the amount of DoD players is likely decreasing. What good is a 97th ranked server if it's empty except when it's only half-full during events?

At what point will the only logical choice finally be made?

So anzio is changing back into Flash?

<3 Blue :p

Flash struggled for months, not years. I was one of the key advocates to do everything possible to save the map. However, I was also a major reason why we got rid of it when it was clear that nothing was helping.

The previous DoD leadership (I think Blue is the only leadership member from around that time still in position) saw what was to come and made the decision to remove the server and try a completely different approach-- Anzio.

BG had a solid Anzio server for a longtime. When it went away I really did think the eGO server would pick up the population. I lost Steam for about 10 months (Last November) and came back to no more Anzio, pretty much just Avalanche and Donner.

Is there a specific reason the servers have to be 24/7 one map?

Perhaps a server with slow map rotation (2 hours at a time) with the most popular maps and Colmar and Jagd server. Objectives are fun and can get people moving. Need more gentle direction by =eGO= members in-game to help those who will take suggestions on moving forward and getting objectives.

If people have fun playing they will come back, it still is an addictive game.

You also need to understand there are two Strand maps. There is a 24/7 Strand map that seems populated in Germany. There is also an Omaha beach map located in the US, also is populated (this map is not exactly Strand but very similar to it). There is no other Anzio server other than on ego.

whoa bro for months on end i did my part. Filled half-way everyday by myself and in a rare chance with some other eGO people. In that time I made 2 mods for flash which were used and it also got up to being full with the Christmas version i modded. Unlike Anzio, Flash had a player base.

Unfortunately what really killed Flash was NOT a leadership doing. It was the Flash crew packing their bags and moving on. Thus making the server in a difficult spot seeing as how it lost its kick starter, and most eGO members for some reason chose not to support it. Sad thing is we lost about 15+ members when it did.

In the end many things lead to the death of flash, but oh well. I just hope Flash never comes back, it just wouldn't be the same.

However back on topic, Anzio is in a tuff situation. From the times I have played it, their was not a huge backing by the community(pubs). eGO members however are ready to back it up, unfortunately its not enough. The main issue is what ST0RMY stated.

The low game population makes it difficult to consistently fill servers, especially five public servers with at least two of the five servers struggling to fill up half way.

Video games slowly lose population over the years. Usually lack of content or no further support through patches are a big factor. DoD has had an astounding run, but like all kingdoms, they fall in time.

Sure all of our servers(except the event server) are in the top 100, which is great. I think however the "DoD front lines" are a bit stretched thin. We are doing good, but for how much longer can we keep it up? If only their was a way to have all time zones covered, which would maximize the total coverage.

I too found FF interesting, but having played there now a few times without it, for some reason, I find it much more fun. Maybe because I can spam my nades without fear of hurting my own team. Maybe because of thinking that I cant spray that doorway with my STG, when I KNOW someone is there, but dont because it might be a teammate, that feeling goes away, and I am now free to run and gun without fear. I dont know, I kinda like it. I dont know that it is actually helping yet, we will have to wait and see, but for the moment, I am a fan
