I want to know your guy's history with TF2. Were you a loyal player since beta? Did you hop on when it became F2P? Whatever it is, share it here. I'll start with mine.

TF2 and I go way back, not quite as far back as the Beta but pretty far back still. I think I first heard about it when I was in Jr. High, so that's like 5 or 6 years ago now. Back then the only FPS games I knew were Left 4 Dead and Halo so a class based game was completely mind blowing and awesome to me. Unfortunately I grew up on Nintendo games and my parents only ever bought Mac computers, so I had no way to actually play it. About a year later I finally got my hands on an Xbox 360. Aside from getting Halo with the Xbox, Left 4 Dead and Orange Box were the first games I got. After I beat all the Half Life's, Portal, and L4D campaigns, TF2 was all I had left to master. Ah yes, those were the dark days indeed. On the Xbox version, there are no updates. So the only map ever played was of course, Dustbowl and maybe Hydro a bit (man I miss that horrible map). Back then Snipers could shoot through the start up gates, Demos could carry like twice as much ammo for their grenade and sticky launcher, and of course Engineers could only level their sentries to 3. Also playing an FPS on a controller without some kind of wussy auto aim lock on crap makes it extremely difficult to really hit anything unless your Heavy.

Anyway I had a lot of fun with that stupidness for about a year until my second year in High School. That's when I built my first gaming computer (or a rig as we nerds call it). Not gonna lie, this was my first non-Mac computer since I was born. It was pretty amazing to actually be able to play more then just flash games on it. Of course I installed Steam and TF2 ASAP. I started playing TF2 on the PC around the start of the Sniper Spy update. When hats were just starting to become a thing. Played the game and enjoyed it for the next few years. I remember my very first hat craft was my Bonk Helmet. I still use it for my Scout today. As time went on I got a lot better at the game. Then the game went F2P. For the next few months it was a nightmare to see all these new F2P scrubs join and make me completely lose my mind. So after getting sick of top scoring every single round, even if I was trying to do poorly on purpose, I just stopped having fun and quit. I quit TF2 and picked of League of Legends for the rest of my High School life. After I finished High School, I realized LoL hadn't done much more then just make me really pissed off all the time so I dropped that game despite putting thousands of hours into it. I decided to pick up TF2 again to see how much has changed. This time all those F2P scrubs I was talking about earlier were now Premium masters with like a bajillion unusual. Fortunately I retained a lot of my skill and prior knowledge to the game and got back into it relatively easily. Another year later and Michael Bluth finally recruited me after playing on EGO servers for the past months, and from that point I guess you guys know the rest.

Hey look buddy, I'm an Engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like 'what is beauty?' Because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems. For instance, how am I gonna stop some big mean motherhubbard from tearin' me a structurally superfluous new behind? The answer? Use a gun. And if that don' work, Use MORE gun. Like this mini caliber tripod-mounted little ol' number designed by me... Built by me... And you best hope...not pointed at YOU.

Me? Umm.

Back in middle school I was a shy internet lurker, first becoming quite a presence on the forums of "Brickarms" and then onto Flickr Pimp My Gun, both relevant to my interests. During my stay in PMG Flickr I had a few friends who had Steam and played TF2. Being a broke middleschooler with no gaming consoles at home I was itching for a good FPS to play. So I eventually picked up Steam and installed TF2.

After about 3 months of derping around with F2Pness (I didn't even know how to change my IGN for a month) I happened on eGO 2fort, which happened to be the server I lagged the least so far (still is). I kept it in my favorites, and somewhere along the line I helped Kazoo ban someone with a porn spray. Because I saw that eGO was such a great clan I went ahead and went to the website and recruited myself.

After being inactive for 3-4 months I finally started getting plugged in to eGO and from there I am now here. It's only been 2 years since I first heard about TF2, but it seems like so long ago.

I began as a wee nooblet puttering around 2fort. I died a lot before realizing that 2fort and CTF in general is a terrible way to play a wonderful game. Eventually I stumbled onto the Egypt server back in 2011, and that is when I found my true calling. The deserted tombs spoke to me, baying for the blood of my enemies. I heeded their words, and over time learned to navigate the crumbling ruins and treacherous desert sands as if blessed by the very gods of bygone antiquity. My foes were many and mighty, but eventually I outlasted and surpassed them all, their still gibbed bits swallowed up by the ever-shifting grit.

My kingdom might be gone now, but when the stars align and I am able to get people on Valve Maps to vote as I see fit, I can once again taste of the glory that was, if only for a short while.

Friends and allies come and go, rivals and enemies destroyed and forgotten, but my love for Egypt is eternal.

Minor addendum: I also joined eGO at some point, recruited by a nameless progenitor* who is now lost to the mists of time.

My brothers had it, they gave it to me me months before turning to F2P
Profit.

I got the orange box roughly around the time it came out for every game that wasn't tf2. I played the original way back when and was never a fan so it made me not really want to play at all.

And then everything changed when the fire nation attacked, or in other words I got bored and installed it to see what was new/has changed and instantly fell in love. Been playing on and off again ever since.

I picked up TF2 with the orange box about a week-10 days after it came out. Played TFC before that.

Found eGO's long-gone Convoy server, have been here ever since.

Hmm......lets see.... only played CoD, Battlefield, and a few nintendo games. Got bored since there was no real interactions. just kill or something. Someone told me about steam and TF2, joined up. Around a year ago traded all my tf2 stuff for skyrim. can't play it, so had to start new. 19 years old, looking for a job, going to college, and that's pretty much everything.

Buy TF2, get hats, trade, get rich, lose your hats, get aggravated, get good at the game, stop playing, only got hats left.

A long time ago, I was in New England visiting my cousin (whom I worshiped as a young pup). He parked me on his HUGE gaming PC on mirror's edge and tf2 to keep me off him. I hated it. But, it stuck with me. 3 years ago, my gamer-otaku buddy got his new PC and started playing TF2, and got REALLY into it. 2 years ago, I picked up a copy of the orange box on 360 for my Birthday. I reveled in my vanilla-f2p-ness for a good year before forgetting it. I got my new computer last winter, and, you guessed it, installed TF2. Played on Lotusclan servers, and realized that nobody cared about anybody. I happened upon a eGO server because it was at the top of the <50 ping serverlist that was organised by players. Played, loved the low ping and the general non-jerk-ery of the players. Joined up when OOber randomly asked me if I wanted to join. Said sure, Favorited all the eGO servers, and only played on a non-eGO server 5 times ever since.

West Colorado, born and raised, Dustbowl was where I spent most o' my days

Chillin' relaxing, on RED team, shootin' the baddies, it was like a dream!

When a couple of bronies, they were up to no good! Started causin' trouble in my neighborhood!

It took one little steam chat and my mom got scared, she said "You're joining a clan called EdgeGamers!"

My father actually started to play TF2 before me (weird) and he showed me how to play and what it was. Later they released this thing called 'hats' and then the engie was released. Weird day. And slowly TF2 became popular and then F2Ps *gasp* We were all exited then they all destroyed our classes and gave birth to FaN Scouts and W+M1 pyros. So now... I just dislike the game. (I knew about eGO through all of this about. I just got around to joining about a year ago because I am lazy)

Well I've been here a month and a half. Started playing dustbowl and 2fort for a little before getting lured in by Nether. Then its all history from there... except that Nether enjoys smack talking me when we're facing each other.

I started about two years ago a couple months after it became free. I had seen the game on eGO for some time but I didn't think of playing it until it became free. When it did, I downloaded it and played bots for several months because of a crap internet connection :P Around December I started playing on the eGO 2Fort server. I played that for several months until, surprise surprise, I realized that it wasn't the only map in Tf2! Since then I got my first unusual (Blizzardy Storm Industrial Festivizer), found my favorite game mode (Saxton Hale), and have achieved my one main goal in Tf2: make it to the top 1000 in GameMe (current rank: 957)! :)

I'm going to make this real simple to read

.... Half-life with Team Fortress Classic pack.... Constant TFC playing... TF2 releases... Transition to game without grenades and a lot of different weapons...

Oh, even with little words, that was so nostalgic for me(And covered so many years!).

Them bronies spraying their pinkypie sprays everywhere... ;) I kid. Anyways awesome post jerryberry

I got into TF2 about a year ago after I heard eGO supported it and it was free. Played mostly 2forts and it became my favourite server/map, then joined eGO under DoD:S divs and have hung around the cool peeps in TF2 for a while. A month or so ago after CoD closed I decided hat fortress would be a nice home :)

Woop Woop such an awesome guy recruited by me. Anyways I started tf2 from trading then I stumbled upon this server called valve maps and a mysterious pony called sanctified aberration. He loves medic and I love heavy so it was love at first sight, no homo. I went on vacation after my first day so I couldn't play vm anymore then when I came back this animal called a "gerbil" recruited me and you know the rest :P

I've had TF2 with the Orange Box since 2008 and played once or twice mainly since my IBM R51 and the then upgraded T60 my school gave me could not run it very well. This year I finally got a power user laptop and started playing my source games again! Shortly after I joined eGO after hearing from Fullmetal one day we were hanging out and that the place is cool. I think im at 400 hrs now. I like how friendly our division is, we have a family relationship and that's cool. lol
