It was December of 2007 . . . I had just moved into my new place after getting my new job in a new city. I had DSL installed and I got online immediately to test my pings to servers. Lo and behold . . . eGO had like the top 3. So I came in . . . the rest is somewhat history. I noticed how "punks" were dealt with on a firm, and more importantly, CONSISTENT basis. As you'll read in my recruitment post: http://www.edgegamers.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?13764 I tried starting a clan of my own, and it didn't work out. We had one server, and tons of problems with outside people causing trouble. We gave it a good fight, but it just didn't work. I saw someone post the address to the .org site so I took the bait. I have to admit, it took me a bit to figure out where to sign up, but that's because when I started reading the forums, I totally didn't see the recruitment office up there. I had to ask for help :( How embarrassing! As I said in my recruitment post . . having tried to run a clan myself, I understand the work involved. We are all lucky to have eGO. :) Thanks for reading my story (if you made it this far).

You guys had the lowest ping. :-P

Long story? OK. Back about October of last year I realized that I'd been using my current computer in more or less its current state for about 4 years. You know what that means?! Upgrade time! So... over the next couple of months I watched the deals websites and purchased the parts to build my new rig. Including Orange Box. I put it together the weekend after New Years and spent a couple of weeks playing Portal and HL2 until one day I decided to get on and try out TF2. I was big into TFC back in college (and then CS and then DOD), but I didn't hold out much hope since I hadn't really played an FPS on my PC in years, let alone an FPS online.

Anyway, when I searched for servers and resorted by ping, I kept noticing these eGO servers on the list that always seemed to be full -- that's usually the sign of a well run server. Eventually, I made it on to one of the servers (Convoy, I think), saw how professionally eGO was run and how they kept it clean, and decided to stick around. (Thank Blackjack, his encouragement was what finally convinced me to apply for membership.)

back then I usually played css but whenever I played DoD:S I play the ego servers only because of the amount of people and none of the usually "I see it so much so deal with it" problems on the css side. Then I got tf2 and randomly found the ego servers and my face was going :O so I kept playing and dieced that I should just join and meet the people in the clan

I had been playing games with a friend I work with and he had gone through a couple clans. He finally found eGO and really liked playing with the guys here and told me about it a few times. My friend, you guys know him as Dirt Nap, finally convinced me to buy the orange box for TF 2 and said I should check out the eGO servers when I was playing for some good times. I played on some eGO servers and then hopped around to some other servers and quickly noticed a BIG difference in the gameplay and the amount of fun I had while playing. I came back to the eGO servers and never left again. Dirt Nap told me a couple of times that I should join, but I don't like joining things just because I "know someone" in the group already. I like to get things on my own merit, so I didn't apply. Then one day fuse started talking to me and asked if I would like to join, so feeling that someone I didn't know wanted me to join prompted me to follow the link he posted and I signed up. I have never regretted it since and really enjoy playing on the eGO servers and hangin out here in the forums!! !shy

I've always been into games, from the C64 up till now with my PC and Xbox 360.

But I always hated playing online. It always felt that the skill level of everyone was was so sky high that I couldn't ever compete. Also I found that people in general would rather put you down and laugh at you than try to build you up.

My first real foray into online gaming was the original Unreal Tournament. Whilst it was fun for a few minutes I didn't like deathmatch games as I only had myself to rely on and I sucked. Tried various other games like Quake 3 and never stuck with them for very long.

Recently a workmate of mine was trying to get me into CSS, I gave it a go, and whilst it was nice being part of a team, I found the attitude of the other players really bad. Nobody would take time to help me out and if I messed up in some way, I would get abuse down the mic.

I really started to get annoyed with the hails of "******* noob" all the time. So I stopped playing.

I saw the Orange Box was coming out and I was really intreaged by Portal... So I polished off that in one sitting then loaded up TF2. Really wasn't gonna give it much time as I knew it was Online and my experience so far was pretty dire...

Went on a few servers, pretty much found the same attitude as on CSS and then I came across the Ego server. I instantly noticed the different attitude whilst playing. People who were rude got told to stop, I didn't understand at the time there was a clan, but I knew whoever was running it had an idea about how to make playing online a friendly experience...

Out of curiosity I looked up this site and had a read of the forum... I'd never thought of joining a clan before as I had always been under the impression that they were only for good players. One night I couldn't get into the ego server as it needed a password... I thought "This can't happen, its the only place I want to play" (i thought guests were not allowed anymore!!!!!) ... So I joined in the hope that I could then play whenever I liked.

Now I've been here a little while I've realised what a great clan ego is. It makes people feel welcome regardless of their skill level.

Now i'm here, I have made it my mission to try and help people enjoy the game, there's nothing worse than feeling like an outsider and not good enough.. Without ego, I would have given up of TF2 within a week and never played it again.

Thats my story... sorry if it made any of you want to hurl!!!

forums.ebaumsworld.com started a thread because i wanted to be more serious then going to random servers w.o any online friends to play with... and soem guy suggested edge gamers, google seached.... and here i am... and im lovin' it!
