What happened to Jail?

I got the jail contributor award today for filling it up.

Gotta dedicate yourself to it and it will get popular! :D

Many things have changed in the last 2 years, and I'm not really inclined to let someone with less than 5% of my time put into jail tell me that nothing has.

That's funny considering my first 2 years here were nonstop jail and that was before you joined. As well as double your hours in CSS. As I said before, nothing has changed in the wardens.

2 years before I joined was not 2 years ago, as implied previously.

How about we go back to a vanilla jail server
Make it so you dont download a ton of skins and plugins as you are joining
Back to all you download is a map

No skins, no buy menu plugins, just CT vs T in a jail map like we had before

Quick download, easy to learn and pick up on, something you can hop on quick to have a relaxing fun time. Where your skill determines your fate, not some guy getting lucky and becoming an alien queen and destroying the team. Back to where you learn where the guns are hidden, not one is given to you.

Jail used to be sort of competitive, who could evade the CTs the best. Now its who got lucky at round start.

I think you're a little misleading. Jail was never about skill, that's why I played it for so long. It was a complex server that had a lot of emotions behind it and unless you're referring to the skills of an admin and how they conduct themselves and handle situations in Jail, I don't think that's accurate.

Did you know that everything we've ever added was at the behest of members. We never once signed on and said "HMM I'M GONNA ADD ALL THIS STUFF BECAUSE YOLO", it was all suggested by you guys.

People worry about us throwing away Jail, but if we have to, we have to. We have a lot of work when it comes to improving Jail and no one knows that better then me and Christy. It's the only server we've played on since the beginning. Me and Christy spend a lot of time and spent a lot of time improving that server on suggestions by you guys. Are there other members and pubs dedicated to that server? Absolutely!

This is an open debate to cause the conversation that's needed to benefit eGO. Please keep this discussion serious if you really want to improve Jail. Any non serious posts will be deleted.

We appreciate everyone's voice of concern, keep it coming!

i agree for new players it's

1.) a big download for all the skins and perks

2.) takes forever too build up points to be able to buy anything like skins

3.) the V.I.P or whatever is really just a popularity contest

4.) like doom said is just popular and lucky make it plain simple and a basic jail

BTW Maserati yes jail is a bad place and a place i don't wanta go back to

just know that i know from personal experience and yes very bad things happen there TRUST ME

STAY IN SCHOOL !!

1) We understand the download time in heavy, we are working on ways to decrease it.

2) That's the whole point. If it takes forever, you'll continuously play. If we just handed out the perks, there would be no point in earning them.

3) I have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

4) Making it vanilla won't fix all of our problems, but it may be a step we'll take.

3) I have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

I think he was referring to ST (V.I.P.).

Obviously this is a complex topic and not something that any one thing is going to fix. My history with jail is 6-7 months old, so no where near many of the other players here. It can be a lot of fun , and can still be, but it really does depend on who is playing. I'm interested in joining constructive dialogue!!!

Things I like about jail.
1. Skins. These make it creative and fun. I don't think it takes an impossible time to earn 3000 credits. You earn them on dust2, italy, office, and jail. Plus with filling events and other things it is pretty easy. I've given away 1000s of credits to other users so they could get a skin.
2. the ST plugin that was developed is great.
3. I'm super clear about the download times. I've never had an issue, but I have a 30Mbps downstream internet connection.
4. Met and played with a lot of fun people here.
5. It is a nice distraction from playing a more competitive standard CS:S. You don't need a ton of skill to have fun.

Things that could use improvement: (just some ideas)
1. Reduce the number of maps? Is it possible to see what are the most popular.
2. Expanding the use of credits to further customize things. I know the store used to be much more. Maybe there is a happy medium?
3. We really need to get the members playing, which will bring in more pubs.

I completely agree with you, but not everybody wanted to add credits, just the majority. Then most of the majority ends up not liking it and now we're here. It's not Ric and Christy's fault we're here, they just listen to us. I actually like the idea of going vanilla, we can add small things in, and if they're bad, we can reverse them.

3. We really need to get the members playing, which will bring in more pubs.
I don't see more players as necessarily meaning more pubs. It might bring back some regulars who already have all the skins downloaded, but if the download length is still the same as it was a while ago, I can see a lot of new pubs just bouncing out before fully downloading everything. Don't get me wrong, I like skins, but the download requirement seems to be a detriment to new players.

It's not even that big of a download. You guys seem to forget, jail was declining before we added the skins.

Every single other popular jailbreak server has even more downloads then us, so I don't get where everyones argument is coming from

I've been strolling around visiting other jail servers to say hi and whatnot ever since returning couple weeks back after a year or two of inactivity. Instead of skins, maybe just do what we have in event server and have hats, masks, and other accessories.

Also one that I see hurting the eGO jail server player base is plugin of only eGO's being allowed to talk as a terrorist in extreme cases. Maybe get rid of that so people can communicate with each other more because having to stand up and type when you're in the middle of the lead's order exposes yourself to a freekill. The admining in Jail will certainly increase as people will curse on mic, just like text but we can handle it.

Also maybe implement some new fun rules - when the lead CT is dead, it automatically becomes a no order day (or freeday) until another CT types "!w" and gives orders. It's a better alternative to what we have when a rebelling T decides to kill the lead and make the law abiding terrorist wait in boredom until a CT steps up or we a brave terrorist decides he's had enough and decides to move (Gets Killed Immediately). It will be hell of alot more chaotic with this but hey that's what jail is about.

Just the added models add an additional 2 1/4 minutes with a required 50mb download. Its over a 100% increase over just downloading the map. Jail may have been declining before skins were added, but that does not mean skins may be impeding a recovery.

I dislike various other jail servers for allowing the Ts to talk. They rarely say anything important and it impedes the progress of the warden and your own ability to understand what the warden is saying. With CTs ready to shoot you for anything now-a-days, failing to understand the orders first go will result in your untimely death.

I understand where you're coming from since I personally have been killed many times due to the Ts talking over warden but wouldn't this be solved with a quick command of mute all Ts? (I know this is highly irregular due to the policy of w/k/b) And from the recent times I've been in jail, I must say that it has been extremely, for lack of a better word, "lax". Most of the time the majority (and I mean 95% of people who play JB currently are eGO members). Because we know each other, we would be hesitant to just off them with a quick AWP shot to the head for going out two steps instead of 1. I know it's a temporary solution but its a step forward. We can worry about this issue later on when we actually have pubs on the JB server.

It's 2014 Internet speeds shouldn't be below 15mb/s for most of us. Only Drew is excused. Dowloads probably aren't anywhere near a Gig.
I get 25 down and the download of models still takes over 2 minutes. Anyone at your minimum of 15 is going to take almost twice as long, probably 5 minutes for all the models and the map itself. For a first time player, that's probably way too long.

You should think that not everyone is from the US or Europe.. Most of the one that play CS:S and any server besides normal maps are from south america (mostly brazil) and we barely have a 5mb/s download speed, at least here in venezuela is 3 or so.

source is dead
play csgo

No, you are dead, go play underground dead man.

very good point not everyone can afford fast DSL or cable internet or even lives in the U.S or Canada or Europe there's people out there in under devolved countries (no offense) that are 2 or 3 generations behind us as far as technology and living conditions heck there's small community's that have to share one or 2 internet connections between 100 too 150+ people (if you ever used the free internet at a large hotel or a library you know what i'm talking bout)

and less not kid ourselves even if you live in the U.S Homelessness, Welfare, Poverty and Domestic and Child Abuse are all still HUGE ISSUES most People just turn a blind eye to it or ignore the issues (i know from personal experince and not asshamed to admit it)

to sum it up i was always raised to think bout those less fortunate than you and people who had it worse than you
