What happened to Jail?

very good point not everyone can afford fast DSL or cable internet or even lives in the U.S or Canada or Europe there's people out there in under devolved countries (no offense) that are 2 or 3 generations behind us as far as technology and living conditions heck there's small community's that have to share one or 2 internet connections between 100 too 150+ people (if you ever used the free internet at a large hotel or a library you know what i'm talking bout)

and less not kid ourselves even if you live in the U.S Homelessness, Welfare, Poverty and Domestic and Child Abuse are all still HUGE ISSUES most People just turn a blind eye to it or ignore the issues (i know from personal experince and not asshamed to admit it)

to sum it up i was always raised to think bout those less fortunate than you and people who had it worse than you

I think you blew that out of proportion a bit too much. But, how I see it is that those who played Jail regularly moved on to other things. Or, as RDK said, got bored of the same routine every round (I'm guilty of this as well).

This may come off as blunt, but what's the relevance of this to the topic of jail? And why does every sentence need some size 5, caps locked, bolded word; It's kind of annoying to read.

Basically this, for me it was that the player base changed and that then completely changed the gameplay of jail to more dull and boring.

^^ its because there are too much plugims and confusing things new players have to deal with, like doom said. i think the only thing necessary is the warden plugin. !w
and maybe the lr plugin.

Plugins have nothing to do with the player base. ALL the popular jailbreaks in CSS have more plugins than we do.

Did you know that everything we've ever added was at the behest of members. We never once signed on and said "HMM I'M GONNA ADD ALL THIS STUFF BECAUSE YOLO", it was all suggested by you guys.

They may be our suggestions, but you guys(leadership) have to be the ones to sit down and look at them, see if they will actually be worth it and if so, decide what is the best way to implement said thing in a way that is fun for the players.

I don't even play Jail anymore(or much CS at all) so I'm not insulting the way you guys have done things as I don't even know what half the changes are from when I played, but clearly something has to change and from my view Jail was popular for eGO back when things were simple, and we should bring it back to that via less downloads, plugins and whatever else will make it like old times.

P.S. Having interesting wardens is a big part too (Maybe one of the biggest), but I don't know how you can solve that as even lots of players doesn't guarantee a fun warden, that all depends on the players being the kind of warden they want to see others be.

I think he was referring to ST (V.I.P.).

Obviously this is a complex topic and not something that any one thing is going to fix. My history with jail is 6-7 months old, so no where near many of the other players here. It can be a lot of fun , and can still be, but it really does depend on who is playing. I'm interested in joining constructive dialogue!!!

Things I like about jail.
1. Skins. These make it creative and fun. I don't think it takes an impossible time to earn 3000 credits. You earn them on dust2, italy, office, and jail. Plus with filling events and other things it is pretty easy. I've given away 1000s of credits to other users so they could get a skin.
2. the ST plugin that was developed is great.
3. I'm super clear about the download times. I've never had an issue, but I have a 30Mbps downstream internet connection.
4. Met and played with a lot of fun people here.
5. It is a nice distraction from playing a more competitive standard CS:S. You don't need a ton of skill to have fun.

Things that could use improvement: (just some ideas)
1. Reduce the number of maps? Is it possible to see what are the most popular.
2. Expanding the use of credits to further customize things. I know the store used to be much more. Maybe there is a happy medium?
3. We really need to get the members playing, which will bring in more pubs.

Thank you for the clarification. It does not matter if you played Jail for 1 day or 600 years, everyone's opinion is appreciated. If everyone kept quiet, this community wouldn't be as successful as it is.

Let's all understand that we can not please everyone, although we try 100% of the time. In reality, people are going to get pissed off over some of the changes we make and we're willing to accept it.

Something that personally upsets me is people tell me all the time "BRING BACK JAIL 2010" as if I have some power that forces all of our old map makers and dedicated players to come back. Unfortunately, times change, people move on, and it's up to us to get that server up and running again. I'm not a deity, I'm a guy sitting behind a keyboard just like all of you.

1) Map reduction is a possibility.
2) This is a back-forth issue. People ask us to be able to customize more, but if you want that customization, you're going to have to download stuff. There's no way around that.
3) I agree, 100%.

I've been strolling around visiting other jail servers to say hi and whatnot ever since returning couple weeks back after a year or two of inactivity. Instead of skins, maybe just do what we have in event server and have hats, masks, and other accessories.

Also one that I see hurting the eGO jail server player base is plugin of only eGO's being allowed to talk as a terrorist in extreme cases. Maybe get rid of that so people can communicate with each other more because having to stand up and type when you're in the middle of the lead's order exposes yourself to a freekill. The admining in Jail will certainly increase as people will curse on mic, just like text but we can handle it.

Also maybe implement some new fun rules - when the lead CT is dead, it automatically becomes a no order day (or freeday) until another CT types "!w" and gives orders. It's a better alternative to what we have when a rebelling T decides to kill the lead and make the law abiding terrorist wait in boredom until a CT steps up or we a brave terrorist decides he's had enough and decides to move (Gets Killed Immediately). It will be hell of alot more chaotic with this but hey that's what jail is about.

We used to allow Prisoners to talk, but it became so out of control that it would not even be a round, it would be 11 Prisoners spamming their microphones and disrupting the server. It was proven not to be handled correctly. We have not tried since.

Mic swears that are accidental are to be excused, regardless of venue. If I die and say "oh s***!" on the mic, that's acceptable. If I die and say "f*** you ric, you loser.", that is not acceptable.

Prisoners are allowed to type, regardless of the command given to them as it is their only form of communication. This is a Jail rule.

Jail should not be about chaos, unless in the sense of rebellion. We want Guards to be able to feel secure and protected and we want Prisoners to feel like they need to kick ass or just follow orders. That's the battle we always face when we play Jail. Unfortunately, everyone has different gameplay styles and this often interferes with our golden idea of a Jail server.

I understand where you're coming from since I personally have been killed many times due to the Ts talking over warden but wouldn't this be solved with a quick command of mute all Ts? (I know this is highly irregular due to the policy of w/k/b) And from the recent times I've been in jail, I must say that it has been extremely, for lack of a better word, "lax". Most of the time the majority (and I mean 95% of people who play JB currently are eGO members). Because we know each other, we would be hesitant to just off them with a quick AWP shot to the head for going out two steps instead of 1. I know it's a temporary solution but its a step forward. We can worry about this issue later on when we actually have pubs on the JB server.

We are not going to unmute the Prisoners just to mute them all again. It does not make sense. Mind as well keep them muted from the beginning.

I am one of the most relaxed players I know. I often go negative in the maps I play. That may or may not be related to the fact that I suck at CS:S.

You are correct. Do you know what my job is? My job is to ensure that all of the members in this division are satisfied on a daily basis. That's a lot of suggestions a day. Do you know how often I reject suggestions? Rarely. Why? I believe in taking chances and the voice of the community. These plugins were a result of me and Christy taking chances and doing what you guys say.

If you are afraid to fail, you will never develop something into your vision. If you fail, you are able to get back up and try again. Does failing suck? Yes. Failing is apart of life, we all fail at one thing or another, despite how hard we try. But if you have never tried, you lay down and conform, unhappy with the results you're given. At least if you try, you are satisfied within yourself. This is what I have learned.

Everyone knows I take all problems and suggestions 200% seriously and if you have a good reasoning as to why you want a change, all you have to do is send me a PM and I'll get right to work whenever I can.

Believe me, I don't think anyone can really insult anyone here. We're a team trying to get this server back on it's feet.

Again, I'm not a time traveler, I can't just magically make all the old members return. Changes are good, changes are bad. It's up to us to decide that fate.

Please, keep the suggestions coming everyone. I really really appreciate them.

Any possibility of having a field trip?

Schedule a little meeting that comprises of leadership and go out on a little field trip to some CS:S popular Jailbreak servers. So you can find out what you like and what you don't while having a little fun in the process.

In before deletion. [spoilers] [much admin aboose in cs][/spoilers]

BambiBaggins has a good hat on his head, hope it helps out with the server getting filled. Might be a long shot but maybe do jail events and get the community involved.

I'm sure it will. We're also offering other prizes as well for this contest.

It will soon be in full swing.

Thanks!

take some of the addons out. Make it a vanilla jail server! Skins are okay... but the whole awards system should go.

We also need to make it to where if one warden does one game (say.. climb) one round, then the next round climb is "disabled". Cannot be played again no matter the turnout. That way it gets switched up.

We could even do a thing where if a T wanted to be a CT for a bit, they can request it then after a certain amount of rounds, a CT is switched to T and the T becomes a CT. Just to make it fair for everyone! :D

Jail is great ._. I wish more people played it as well Bambi!

flame, I love you.

But, what I see problematic with this is if someone is new to Jail and they're playing CT, they mimic what the other CTs before them do as warden (this is what I did). By forcing them to have to pick and choose when they may or may not know Jail will possibly cause longer and "more boring" rounds which will upset not only the T's but the CT's as well.

CTs really shouldn't be wardening without knowing jail. Ideally, forcing them to do something that was not done the previous round(s) will make it so someone who opts in for warden has some general idea on what to do, rather than having no idea and doing what the previous warden did as a fallback. This can cause some problems on maps that lack multiple games to play, or after a round where a warden does a game and only kills off 1 T or something, resulting in a bunch of games being done and then locked on a subsequent round.

That sounds like an awesome idea. I'll ask the rest of the team what they think.

Thanks!
