Week 8 Alpha Leage results:
Skippy, if you don't have a chance to write a summary, let me know - I've gotten half of one written up already. It's sorta fun.
Mav -- have at it. I was going to do it tonight but since you're already halfway done you might as well finish it.
I will say this though -- congratulations to Terror on finally breaking his duck!
I'll also post both league standings shortly.
I'd have to go back and check, but somehow I doubt it. Every year we do get a few 200+ scores so I'd guess we've probably had one higher than 208 in the past.
Week 8 Alpha League Recap
In a week full of high-scoring games, Tip to the Top was at the top of the heap. Their ridiculous 208.2 points were the most in the league this year. Q-Tip's BFF Peyton Manning had a great game, but so did the rest of his team. The only player who scored less than 10 points was the Indy defense - and those lost points ended up in Tip's Pittsburgh players. BaCkStAb's Swag Team, on the other hand, almost all underperformed - good games from Cordarelle Patterson and Justin Tucker couldn't make up for his other receivers and backs, who all scored less than 6.5 points each. The loss was the biggest deficit of the year to date.
Fluxion went back to running up the score this week. His Forte-Foster RB pair was stellar, and Golden Tate was an early bonus from London. His only disappointment, Tony Romo, didn't even come close to eating up their gains. Bay Area didn't do too badly; great games from Tom Brady & Mark Ingram made up for some weak WRs and a scoreless Garrett Graham. Unfortunately, they weren't enough to survive the Fluxion Storm.
Terror's Team finally stopped being scared by their own shadow, and posted their first win of the season. Although they started a kicker on his bye week, Jeremy Maclin's smashin' performance more than covered that slip-up. It was enough to create a clear win against (IO) SA. His team didn't seriously underperform, but he needed to get more from players like Julius Thomas in a high-scoring week like this.

- One of Nuckin's WRs put up a goose-egg - Arizona's Michael Floyd. Luckily for him, his other Arizona WR, Larry Fitzgerald, more than made up the difference. Sammy Watkins and Drew Brees also helped him put over Where's the BeeF? in the week's closest game.
- Both Skippy and the Dr. Comptonites got strong performances from their defense. However, another solid Green Bay game gave Skippy a slight edge, and Gronk's three touchdowns put a spike through the Raptor Squad.
- Wewo couldn't wrangle his roster into place this week. Although he picked up the high-performing Buffalo defense during the week, they didn't make it onto his starting team. The rest of his squad might as well have stayed home with them - all but one player underperformed. Although Mav's players were a mixed bag, they were enough to wreck Wewo with the second-highest deficit of the year.

And as suddenly as the season was upon us, week 9 is in the bag. Only 4 weeks' worth of regular season match-ups remain before the playoffs begin. Some teams have started to pull away from the rest of the field (Q-tip and Dangle at 7-2), whereas prospects are looking bleak but not yet mathematically impossible for others (Terror, BeeF, Bay Area, BaCkStAb, Joe the Plumber, Dodgy, and Hardwarebeer at 2-7 or 3-6).

- After starting out with 7 straight losses, Terror reeled in his 2nd win in a row, narrowly defeating a sleepy Fluxion team by less than 2 points. Fluxion can still sleep easy though, as he remains the leader in the Spray division by virtue of his superior intra-division record over Wewo, but only just.
- Struggling to say in the playoff hunt, Bay Area was dealt a mortal blow by Q-tip, losing by less than 3 points even though he put up the week's 3rd highest point total (160.85). Even though his resurgent Brady out-scored Q-tip's man-crush Peyton, and he made the right decision to start rookie Mike Evans (33.4 points) over VJax (14.6 points), Bay Area went home after week 9 asking what more he can do to buy a win. Such is the cruel world of fantasy football.
Bravo league
- If Q-tip owns Alpha league, then Dangle is absolutely dominating Bravo league. Crushing Zer0 by almost 100 points this week, Dangle is the new favorite to usurp Efren's FF crown with his tournament-leading 1408.45 points (Q-tip only has 1356.35 and that's with his fantasy football husband Peyton) scored and 2-game lead in his own division. Of course it doesn't hurt when you own a red-hot QB who has thrown 12 TDs in the last 2 weeks. Peyton who?
- Facing the bye-week blues and a multi-week injury to Ryan Mathews, Bigbird pulled off one of the luckiest I mean most astute GM decisions by picking Matt Asiata off the waivers and starting him. All the latter's second 3-TD game this season did was to help BigBird snap Kiwi's 4-game winning streak.

Just to clarify, Kiwi --

Gio Bernard's injury is particularly poorly-timed for me - it's catching me in bye weeks where I have to throw weaker players in.
Mind you, this week is going to be even harder on me - Losing both my RBs and Andrew Luck to their byes is going to make it hard to beat Peyton.
We are now 1 week closer to the playoffs, and while some things in the playoff landscape have gotten clearer, others yet remain murky.

- With his 4th win in a row (by 37 points over Mavwreck) and thanks to DrCompton getting buried by (IO)SA's highest score of his season, Qtip (8-2) now sits comfortably at the top of the Duality division with a 2-game cushion. A single win from his last 3 regular season matchups guarantees postseason action for the long-time Peyton Manning obsessor.
- With matching and very serviceable records of 6-4, both DrCompton and Nuckin still have good shots of securing one of the non-division winner playoff spots.
- Getting his 2-game win streak abruptly halted by an angry Bay Area (4-6) team that showed up to compete, Terror's slim playoff hopes are now all but over, but he will be focused on playing spoiler as he meets BeeF, DrCompton, and Skippy in his final 3 weeks.
ronpaul Division
- Mavwreck's (6-4) loss is Skippy's (7-3) gain, as the latter has now leapfrogged into top spot in the division. This is likely a 2-horse race for division champ honors with BeeF and Bay Area both sitting at 4-6.
Spray Divison
- If you're looking for excitement look no further than this division, where Fluxion, (IO)SA, and wewo are all tied with 5-5 records. wewo is the most disadvantaged of this trifecta as he is 1 game back in terms of intra-division record, and 200+ points back in terms of points scored, but he does face Fluxion in his regular season finale so it might just come down to week 13.
- Like Terror, BaCkStAb (2-8) can now officially look ahead to next year and focus on playing spoiler for the rest of the season.
Bravo league
C-WHiT Division
- MatzWhat (6-4), Predator Lark (6-4), and Bigbird (5-5) all losing in Week 10 means that we have to wait another week for someone to separate himself from the rest of the pack.
Blue Stealth Division
- Dangle (8-2) continues his absolute dominance in Bravo league, this time romping to a 162.85-120.95 victory over the halpless Silent Drifters, his 5th in a row.
- SpruceWayne (6-4) and Kiwi (5-5) have only to curse their luck at being in Dangle's division, and hope that they snag one of the wildcard playoff positions.
Lungbuster Divison
- Almost a mirror-image of Alpha League's Spray division, as 3 teams (Efren, Silent Drifter, and ZerO) all sit at 5-5, the only difference being the team in 4th place (Hardwarebeer) cannot be counted out just yet as he is only 1 game back. If Skippy was a betting canine he'd bet his last chew bone on 2-time league winner Efren, who clearly has the pedigree to go clutch over the next 3 weeks.

Well, Bell -did- out-perform expectations with his 200+ yards, but no matter how you slice it losing by 1/10th of a point is brutal. Ouch!

A tenth of a point victory for myself.....unbelievable! I knew that lead wasn't safe with Bell going against that Titans D.
2 weeks left of the regular season. Football connoisseurs better savor them because soon there will be nothing but icky basketball and hockey to tide you over till next September.

- Normally if you are up by about 40 points going into Monday night with a kicker to play and your opponent with 1 RB and 1 WR to play, you might feel pretty secure. Not so much if that WR is Antonio Brown. Or if that RB is Le'Veon Bell and he decides Monday is the night to explode with over 200 yards rushing. That's exactly what happened with Qtip coming from behind to beat (IO)SA, and clinch as Duality division champ.
- Even though they both lost this week to drop to 6-5, DrCompton and Nuckin are still very much in the playoff hunt.
ronpaul Division
- Skippy (8-3) won his 6th matchup in a row to secure himself a playoff spot, though not necessarily the ronpaul division title, as Mavwreck's win keeps him hot on the former's heels at 7-4. Interestingly, both teams face off against each other in Week 12.
- Bay Area (5-6) lurks, not being mathematically out of playoff contention it yet.
Spray Divison
- Last week we talked about Fluxion, (IO)SA, and wewo are all being tied with 5-5 records. Fast forward 1 week and it's advantage Fluxion, as he was the only one of this trifecta to pull out with a win to advance to 6-5. Things will get even more interesting this week as Fluxion goes up against (IO)SA.
Bravo league
C-WHiT Division
- Last week we wondered who out of MatzWhat, Predator Lark and Bigbird would take control of this division, and boy did we get our answer. Predator Lark (7-4) came up huge in week 11, posting an impressive 186.70 points during a relatively low-scoring week to plaster Bravo league leader Dangle (8-3) and snap his 5-game winning streak.
- Currently ranked 5th in Bravo, one would normally put money on MatzWhat (6-5) to make the playoffs, except for the fact that his RB situation is hurting in a big way -- outside of Forsett, there is not a whole lot of optimism in FJax, Cunningham, Rainey, or Bush producing big anytime soon. And did I mention Antonio Brown is on a bye this week? Yikes.
Blue Stealth Division
- Who wouldn't care about losing by 70 points? Dangle (8-3), that's who. Even with his lop-sided loss to Predator Lark, he still secured his playoff spot this week by virtue of his league-leading W-L record. However, hot on his heels now is Sprucewayne (7-4), who quietly notched his 5th straight win. They go head-to-head in week 12 in a juicy match up that may decide who scores a first round bye in the playoffs.
- Meanwhile, Kiwi (5-6) suffered a heartbreaker, losing by 0.10 points to Silent Drifter in the final minutes of the MNF game, putting a huge dent in his playoff hopes. If you listen closely enough, you can still hear the tears dropping from all the way in Middle-earth.
Lungbuster Divison
- One hairy fruit's loss is another Silent Drifter's (6-5) gain. His narrow win propelled him to the top of his division, although he is now being chased by a trio of 5-6 teams, Efren, ZerO, and Hardwarebeer. This division is by no means decided.
