I see there is a forum devoted strictly for serious trading. Where do you beg for items... I seem to be out of the loop on a lot of things and have no idea where to even start. Also are there still servers to just idle on to get items?

While we dont necessarily have a place where you can so and so "beg" for items, I've found most members here from personal experiences will help you out if you ask nicely in game and you've built a good rapport with them. I normally will just give away my duplicates for example but usually prefer its an eGO member and that I have gotten to know them since it involves adding people to steam and such.

In any case, feel free to socialize with the community members and im sure there will be some that will be willing to help or make a generous offer. Additionally, while we dont have like a trade/achievement server, we do welcome you to pick any of our servers and idle, not only could something fall from the sky but you'll be helping us with server filling, this is how I've gotten some duplicates of the basic weapons.

Valve released an update a while back that broke idling. I don't remember exactly, but basically their idea was to prevent people from leaving their computer on for hours and getting free stuff. So now to get stuff you pretty much have to play the game.

As for items, what Mas said. I myself don't exactly have much to give, but I'm sure many people would be happy to share.
