well, I haven't played and won't be able to play until August or so, so don't say I'm just frustrated because I didn't get what I wanted.

I didn't farm achievements (I got the KGB only a day before the scout pack came out). I hope they do something to the achievement system so that there is some sort of reward for getting them. A little crown on your head for three seconds is hardly a reward for what may have been weeks of playing to get some tough achievements.

While I didn't much like achievement farming, I didn't think it was despicable. If people wanted to take the challenge out of their game, so be it. From what it sounds like, this new way is random and frustrates everyone because there is no logic or skill involved.

I hope by August it is back to earning weapons. Which would you feel better about in a game: dying 10 times in a row and getting a lucky last hit on a guy getting mowed down by a heavy, or playing well against tough players and earning your kills based on skill? I think the same logic applies the the weapon updates.

In short, I don't want to be given handouts, I want weapons to be held out of my reach so I have to grow as a player to get what I want and become better in the process.

I have 3 things to say about the new system-(sorry if t hurts the eyes a little.)
First and most importently I'm sorry about all the wining(I could have used some cheeze to go with it) about the drop rate while I was on the blackmasa server last night. 100+kills 20some deaths and I get something I ALREADY HAD!
Secondly I would like to sell a car that will never need fuel to Value or to any solftware maker that thinks that people should be "understanding" when releasing untested update.*
Third I hope they say that it was BETA testing for the next game.
*This is how solftware pogramers work, it looks good on paper but NEVER works.

i got some cheeze fer ya! :)

1) This update is buggy. I'm not saying be happy with Valve that they released a buggy patch, but now you see what happens when you rush a company into doing something. Would you all have been super happy to see this whole thing go through another 2 months of beta testing to iron out every bug? I almost assure that would not be the case.

2) With this buggyness there could be problems with the new pick up method. Wait until Valve releases info on how it works then we can make a real judgment.

3) This system is actually less like an rpg than the last one. Especially thinking of WoW. Which is more RPG-like: grind for a couple of hours on specific things (monsters, achievements) until you get the right quest reward or play the game normally without any real interruption and randomly get something new. The former is WAY closer to almost any rpg, especially MMO's, that you are going to encounter.

4) Valve is still updating their games. FOR FREE. It's not often companies give you completely new content (key word, content) updates for free. Just to give an example, CoD 4 hasn't received a patch in almost a year now. They have released 5 patches in total and they have almost entirely been bug fixes. I'm to lazy to go and count the number of updates Valve has released that have been content related, but it's been a lot. TF2 didn't need new content. The base game was rather good. But new content keeps it alive and fun for much longer than your average FPS.

i agree and can you say bf2 anybody?

i don't really care

i've got my sandman and force of nature from the last patch. that is all i need. everything is a side grade anyways. it is good because i don't have to grind out a class i don't really want to play just to try a new weapon for craps and giggles to see what it is like. now i just keep playing like normal and when the item drops for me i can try it out.

it is a win/win.

Yeah thats how i pretty much see it.

Well before you know it your gonna be able to sell the duplicate gear for money at the TF2 AH an go on a 40 man raid in Dustbowl to get your Tier 5 Sniper Rifle lol.

but with joking aside, honestly I couldn't tell you how I feel about the new system. I think its funny imo I hope Valve called their new script the chaos theory loot dropper. I played for about 2-3 hr's this morning an pulled in the jarate an dead ringer. I also heard the hats are gonna start dropping. I'm sure they did this due to large formal complaints that players were sick an tired of earning their gear when others just used achievement servers to get it, so why not just farm em an even out the balance? because you like the challenge an effort it takes to earn them? Then who cares how the others gets them. I don't see how it cheapens your gameplay you need to be having fun for you not for the rest of the gaming community. Like I said Im on the fence about this. I can say I'm happy to dodge the misfortune of picking up something I already have an managing to get 2 new things also.

Yeah, I don't like it. At all. I was lucky enough to get the Dead Ringer within minutes, but nothing in the two hours after that.

My hope is that they'll implement a method where you can pick up unlockables from dead players who have them, in addition to the random drops. Or they'll bring achievement milestones back.

Im not really a fan of the new system.... however there is at least one good point to it that I feel i should point out (in case nobody else has)

With the new system it will hopefully avoid people flooding the new classes trying to get the achievements for the weapons... chances are that wont happen, but it may help in the long run.

either way, not really a fan since its all random, its both good and bad for new players

new players get to experience newer weapons without have to spend a lot of time unlocking achievements.... but it now makes the achiecements only worth the achievement, ie, since the achievements dont unlock anything anymore they arent worth any more than simply getting the achievements.

I think the drop system is utter s***. I play for a few hours and all i get is the death bringer. I miss the milestones. Where did valve get the idea that everyone would like this?

Now I'm pissed off that I farmed all of my previous achievements. They better give you the ability to reset them. Thanks, Valve: now I'll never be able to appreciate all of the achievements.

This post infuriates me.

You are literally blaming Valve for something you yourself did.

It's your own friggin' d**mn fault. Valve did nothing to make you farm achievements; they even made them easier to get as time went by. Valve is getting a lot of flak, and much of it may be justifiable, but this is just freaking retarded.

I haven't had a chance to try out the game with the new unlocks, but I think its a good system IF they removed the fact that you can get multiple copies of weapons you already own.

No one needs 25 KGBs. Delete your KGB then fine, you might win it again but that's it. 1 copy of each weapon. Anything more is silly and superfluous.

OK, everyone has made their points. Everyone has an opinion. If you can't share them nicely, this happens:
