I've been having this HUGE problem with lag/high pings for the past week or so. So when I join a server, my ping is like 800 and i usually lag out the second i join a server. I tried to forward my ports a little more than a week ago, is that what might be causing it? Anyway, the lag is so bad sometimes its like im about to lag out(i can look around, but not move and everything else around me is frozen) but i can see people typing, hlstats recording me dying or something, and i can hear people talking on mic crystal clear. Also, my internet on Google Chrome ROCKS, i can load a huge page of images on fpsbanana in like 5 seconds, but in game my ping can reach 1000. What gives?
Also my comp specs:

Windows Vista
Lenovo SL500 Laptop

Router Specs:
Linksys
Model Number RZT31P2

ISP:
Comcast

Also I use a hardwire that connects my comp directly to the router(i've tried wireless, still extremely high pings)

www.speedtest.net

Select a server that is close by and run test, write down all three number, ping download and upload.

Then run the same test except run it on a server in Dallas Texas and write down your Ping Upload and Download. Then post those scores and we will go from there.

Do you know what your set Download speed is? I get 10mb/sec in Ky, I used to get 3mb/sec I had to call my internet provider and tell them I wanted to upgrade account to 10mb/sec.

Since you live in Boston, I sorta think this could be a bandwidth problem.

You might try calling your internet provider and ask if your getting any tf3 timeouts on your modem.

The router you have is a G wireless router correct? What modem do you have?

Your internet comes through cable, correct?

1. Could be old/outdated modem or router
2. Low bandwidth due too, to many people being on the same channel.
3. Low internet download plan

That is what I think this could be. When I was getting bad pings and bad download. One time it was because they had overloaded a channel in our area with to many people, at first it was just because I had a slow download internet plan. I got that upgraded for free :-) Another Time it was my router, went out bought a new router still didnt work, replaced the new router then it worked, I have a linksys Modem and I think its a D-Link router. Not sure on the router, however the router itself cost $70 the modem another $50-70.

If you are on a cable connection, and you are hooked directly into your router, which should be connected to your modem, You should be getting decent ping. Distance is normally a issue, however, I dont think that you are far to notice this much, you should be getting 75-100 ping. Make sure you have a secruity setup on your router, so that other people are not connecting to your internet.

Nobody else is connecting except for my mom. But I went onto frap's server and i got a max of 300 ping. It went down a lot. I'll try it in tf2 and see if anything changed.

Do you know what your internet plan is?

I kinda assume it is 1mb/sec or 3mb/sec, You should find out and maybe consider an upgrade.

My dad handles all the internet probs/upgrades. I'll ask him what internet plan we have and edit this post...

EDIT: We're moving to florida in 2 weeks and my dad says i just have to wait for two more weeks with extreme lagg, then he'll get fast internet down in florida :D

P.S: I have an extreme case of hickups and they're very annoying >.<
