I'm Canadian too.
1. I love our health care, it is awesome but has some work to do to stay on top. Why you Americans haven't rioted without single payer health care blows me away every day of my waking life.
2. I like beer, but I like wine/spirits a hell of a lot more. Ontario wine is ok, B.C. is ok, but the French still make it the best. Molson's is garbage. It truly is. It's like Bush. That 50 cent a can crap. The europeans make the best hands down. They've been doing it longer and doing it better than anyone in N.A.
3. I say eh alot. I use it at the end of my sentences as part of a question or to introduce a new point. I don't know why I say it, but I like it. It's kind of like a reinforcing word for a sentence. For example: "What's the point of all this crap, eh?" I like it.
4. Toques rock. Warm as hell. Don't care what the name is as long as it keeps me warm.
5. Horse back riding is very popular out West and as leisure in Ontario. 100's of x more so than dogsledding to put that into perspective.
6. Maple syrup is awesomely Canadian from Quebec and the maritimes but Vermont makes it too. They have lots of maple plantations there and they do it well.
7. It does get snowy, but for some reason Buffalo, New York, and Chicago always seem to get nailed harder than some of us in Southern Ontario. Must be a lake effect that keeps us a little warmer in Ontario. Summers are nice anywhere from 18-40 degrees celsius (64-104 Fahrenheit) throughout the summer. But this summer has been really rainy, wet and a bit cooler. Winters can be miserable down to -30 degrees Celsius, but that's the cold snap in February. Most of the time it ranges from -15 +3 degrees Celsius during the winter and makes for great skiing weather! The past couple of winters have seen positive temperatures for skiing. B.C doesn't get nailed as hard as the interior or further east and they usually stay positive throughout the year, but rainy, like Seattle (only 20 min by plane south of B.C.).
8. Hockey is alright, but every sport has their nuts. I know TONS of people that don't care about hockey and think it's stupid and TONS of people that love it. Choose your poison. I think it's incredibly stupid and over-hyped btw.
We're so similar to Americans that it blows me away that Americans can have a stereotype about Canadians. The only thing that bothers me is that electronics are WAY cheaper in the states than Canada even though it all gets shipped in from overseas anyways. It kills me seeing awesome prices on websites then seeing "Does not ship to Canada" underneath. What a tease. $30 headphones in the states could be $50-60 in Canada, even after dollar conversion (which is usually about par by the way). Graphics cards, comps, everything electronic is cheaper in the states. I think if I buy a new computer for gaming, I'll have it made in the states, then I'll drive down to pick it up!
